Who said you have to have a credit card?
what would you need to have a credit card for? i know you sometimes have to set up a direct debit, even if you don't pay that way. but why a credit card?
sheff_minx 23-01-2007, 16:21 I have a contract phone and don't have a credit card
You need a credit record of some form but so long as you're over 18 then that isn't a problem.
baileys_mum 23-01-2007, 16:21 Phoene 4 U ask for credit cards now cos they are assured payment then. Other places such as the actual shops themselves IE 02 and Vodaphone etc only ask for a debit card
Got my contract phone from Carphone Warehouse butdidnt need a credit card.
got mine from phones 4 u n i didn't need a credit card. carphone warehouse is better anyway.
baileys_mum 23-01-2007, 16:25 Its a new thing it came in not long ago em
if its a specific contract you've seen i'm sure someone else will be able to match it cos they're all wanting your custom. or just phone up the network themselves, they should be able to.
princess01 23-01-2007, 16:36 i have tryed carphone warehouse, phones 4 U , the link and they all said they need a credit card, i then tryed online with dialaphone etc and they said i need one too.
I've got an O2 contract and I don't have a credit card. Just upgraded and they were happy with my debit card as proof of signature.
princess01 23-01-2007, 16:40 Thats another problam, i have always had a whole in the wall card, yorkshire bank are upgradeing mind to a debit card but within the next 6 weeks:confused:
baileys_mum 23-01-2007, 16:41 Don't go to those carphone warehouse type places, they are pants. Go direct to the contract provider
princess01 23-01-2007, 16:45 i have been to vodaphone, and t-mobile, but i am losing faith now how many no's can i take:(
alternageek 23-01-2007, 16:52 i went to apply for contract phone recently and was declined simply because i had zero credit rating. you may have been declined for the same reason. now that some has run a report on you you technically have some credit. or it could also be because you have a low credit rating and are asking you to secure a monthly payment via a credit card
Go direct to the contract provider
I agree! Carphone Warehouse need a lesson in customer services, In my experience I had nothing but trouble with them.
Go straight to the network shops, you'll get a better service all round.
How about trying an online tariff? O2 do online only tariffs, only problem is, if you need a repair or advice you cant go to an O2 shop, you need to do it online. But I think they are easiery to get than a "high street" contract.

upinwath 23-01-2007, 18:38 Don't go to phones 4u.
They are crap.
Carphone whorehouse are not that much better.
I like Voda.

That's likely to be the problem. I don't think they will accept payments in cash because they need a card payment to prove you are the person who you've provided direct debit account details for the contract. I might be wrong though but I've always been told the card payment forms part of the ID process.
get in touch wiv pobby on ere he can sort u a contract out wiv no credit checks i got one wiv him its great only pay £22.50 a mth on 3 network i get 1200 mins, 800 texts a month an lots more
I'm on Vodafone contract and I only have a debit (switch) card and not a credit card.
Due to upgrade next month on the 22nd, and the contract's up for renewal end of April, 18 month contract from end of October 2005, £15 a month for 100 minutes and 50 texts, minutes roll over if I don't use them in one month (and I never do).
whitewitch 23-01-2007, 21:21 I think its something to do with proving who you are and your address, i dont have a credit card, so i used my switch card instead:)
