Just interested if the Mod Revival of the late 70s/early 80s had a big impact in Sheffield.

Are the any Mods out there from this era? Where did you used to hang out? What pubs/clubs did you frequent?

I remember one Saturday going into town with my mum and dad - must have been 1980 - and round Barkers Pool it was absolutely crawling with mods in parkas and stuff. I'd never heard of mods at that point and didn't know what was going on.

And from that point on there was a massive mods v. rockers thing going on at school for a while.

It certainly did have a big impact, there were loads of mods. Groups like the lambrettas and secret affair were popular, and the ska groups like the specials and selector. The film quadraphenia was released but was based on the 60s mods. One night close to west st i was actually stabbed twice by a gang of rockers even though i wasnt causing any trouble, wrong place wrong time, and i was a mod.

We used to have mod nights at the Kay Gee Bee which was the big ballroom underthe Abbeydale picture palace. Quite a lot of our customers turned up on scooters and loads of them wore the fish-tail parka. Girls used to wear black and white patterned outfits which was a sort of unofficial uniform almost. They did one dance a bit like the locomotion with it's tempo and beat which involved a lot of vigorous wind-milling of the arms.

I was a bit young to be a proper mod revivalist at that age (I was only 11 when Jam broke up) but Paul Weller has been my icon since. However I was going /am going through that ooh but I like a bit of Wham as well:hihi: Needless to say I fancied the boys in parkas at school who were also riding BMX's. I, meanwhile, walked round in my dogtooth skirt and jam shoes wearing a kappa jacket and an adidas top. :hihi:

Still love all things mod though. Wonder when the next Pow Wow is?

I was a mod from about 82-92, but not in Sheffield (Derby and Leeds). I did, however know a few sheffield mods from 1985 onwards. Still see some about. Anyone recognise anyone on here:
