We've all done it, just nipped out of the car, engine still going cause we can't be bothered to switch it off.
So on this occation one Yorkshire woman decides to do just that only to have her baby in the back seat and some oppotunist comes along and knicks her car.

Who's fault is that.!
With todays society I no longer do that and I've got to admit I have done it in the past, but with a baby in the back is damn right irresponsible.

Of course you're 100% correct. Ultimately the toe-rag who nicks the car is to blame. But realistically only a fool would leave their car unattended with the keys in it (which is illegal if the engine's still running, BTW).

And only a criminally irresponsible fool would leave a baby unattended in a car, with the engine running or not.

Well, people who blatantly flout the law have little cause to complain when somebody else does. It's a whole mind set - 'but I'm just...' yes, you're JUST disregarding EVERYBODY ELSE 'coz YOU'RE so damned important. Only works if EVERYBODY ELSE tows the line (or is that 'toes the line'?)

Poor kid. Perhaps it would be safer in somebody else's care...?

We live in a society where you have to assume that some other arsewipe is going to try stealing or breaking your goodies.

Therefore, we need to watch our backs - leaving the car engine running and keys in is, I believe, illegal anyway apart form being terminally stupid. It's also irresponsible, and when combined with leaving the rugrat in the car as well one has to wonder....

I guess that someone on their own does need to leave Johnny or Janey in the car alone for a few minutes, but surely that's when you wind up the windows, turn off the engine, lock down the car and dask around like hell for two or three minutes.

And if you need to leave the car for longer than that and you're on your own, then perhaps you need to take the kid with you.

My driving instructor always told me that you have to work on the principle that no-one else is paying 100% attention to the road, so you have to. If we apply the same principles to day to day life we might all get by a little more safely.

The parents were on GMTV this morning (Doncaster)She left the child in the car with the keys & nipped around the corner to a friends house, how irresponsible can some people be,all they said was how pleased they were to get the baby back safe, but if I had my way they should have been done for leaving the child in the first place, what would have happened if say a lorry had hit the vehicle & the child had been badly injured or killed,no doubt the parent would have blamed the driver. One thing you don't do is leave a child in a vehicle with the keys in it.

I got paranoid pushing my kids in a pushchair...it seems so evil particularly with stupid drivers. If a car came round the corner the pram would get hit first not me.

Anyway...I think this woman was extremely irresponsible. The fact she left her child in the car whilst popping out of site of it is bad enough, but leaving the child unattended in a car still running is just asking for it.

I think the child and the parents should be put under close monitoring. When you think what records nurseries and schools keep on the slighest bump or bruises but nothing for leaving your kid in a car....isn't that abandonment?

To do this and then have the audacity to go on national tv is almost unbelievable, the woman ought to be locked up.

Any number of things could have happened in addition to the car being stolen. The child could have been ill, car could have been hit by another vehicle, caught fire etc.

I agree Mo, this was her first child and she left it in the car with the keys in it. She should have the police and social services after her.

Children are too precious to leave any time, friends say I wrap mine up in cotton wool, but at least there safe and alive.
