Im having problems with the monitor connected to my PC.
Each time i switch my PC on, the monitor keeps on going onto stanby. At first i thought it might have been one of the cables at that back being loose but they was all in fine. So i then replaced the monitor but still had the same problem.
so was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to why this is happening?

Right click on your desktop and select "Properties", then go to "Screen Saver", under the Power schemes is the monitor set to turn itself off after a predetermined period?

I know very little about such things but have heard others descibe such a problem and it ended up being a knackered graphics card.

Sounds like a fault with your PC not your monitor, could be 1 of several things, faulty graphics card, memory, motherboard or processor. Can you hear any kind of beep coming from the base unit?

The problem like said above is most likely to be with your graphics card. It could also be a fault with the power supply not feeding the correct power to the motherboard. My advice would be to seek help from a professional.

Take it down to 'The Real Computer Shop' on ecclesall road south, they'll fix it.. If it is the graphics card, it'll cost around £20 + labour, if it's the power supply then around the same price.

I've had this problem before. In my case it was the motherboard that was causing it. Some kind of inherent fault in that particular model of Dell PC. There was no way to fix it other than replace the motherboard.

I've had this before, I unplugged the monitor from the tower and the plug socket, connected everything back up and it was fine.

But as others say, Could be the PC :?

OK, sounds like it's a fault with your computer, can you say exactly how many beeps and whether they are long or short, then I can tell you what the fault is.

Listen to the beeping that your computer is making carefully. Differentiate between long and short beeps then head to http://www.pchell.com/hardware/beepcodes.shtml

Go to the AMI beep codes list and it will tell you what pattern of beeps means what.

I had that problem and after trying a new video card it did not make any difference so i borrowed a spare hard drive and tried that and it was the hard drive so now the problem is no longer there.
