View Full Version : Unconcious woman, ignored
I can not beleive that a woman lay unconcious in the road while at least 12 drivers drove past without stopping.
What sort of country do we live in?. Is it just in London that this sort of thing happens?.
I would never be able to turn a blind eye to someone lying unconcious in the road with blood pouring from a head wound, and i hope the t*$$*rs that drove by are feeling guilty as hell at the moment!!!!!!!.
But you've got to remember also that stopping may put yourself in danger if the "victim" is actually a car jacker or something. Obviously if you could see blood when driving past then pull over. About a year ago in town I saw a guy laid out on the pavement while driving past at night. I slowed down and was about to stop, then he jumped up as his mate came round the corner and they had a laugh. When people drink loads you don't know whether to approach them or not.

Unless your trained there might not be alot you can actually do apart from comfort the person. Maing sure that the authorities have been contacted should be the first job.

The poor woman was in London and i could'nt stop because i was in Sheffield at the time :).
As for it being a hoax, i think it said on the news that the woman in question has been released from hospital after 10 days of treatment. They still do not know if it was a robbery or a hit and run.
It is true that you need to be carefull in this sort of situation but surely locking your doors and ringing the authorities or even sitting there with your horn going crazy until one of the residents of the houses (which were only about 20 meters away) came out, would be better than putting the 'blinkers' on and driving away!.
Do you think the people didn't stop because they didn't care or because they thought it might not be a real situation?
I was suprised it took so long for the woman to be helped, although now I know it happened in London I'm not so suprised, its not a very nice city.
Alot of people have gone through the First Aid at Work course now and the priorities are in the following order.
1. Look for dangers to yourself, is it safe?
2. Make the casualty safe from further harm.
Then you've got Check responses,Contact authorities, Airway, Breathing, Circulation, Breaks & Burns as usual.
Looking at the list it would be difficult for a lone person to say that the first two priorities could be met, and then deal with an unconscious person in the road.
Its very sad that such incidents of leaving people are increasing but so are the number of cases where caring people have been taken to court and even assaulted. Firemen get it all the time.
I wouldn't condemn anyone without being there at the time.
Well I would have deffo stopped, got out and tried to help regardless to my own safety especially after seeing her lying in a prone state in a pool of blood.
I would feel very guilty and ashamed personally if I didnt.
God willing, I hope if I am ever in the situation of that lady that someone helps me out- without me dying in the gutter.

I'm with you ANGELUS!, i have been quite suprised at some of the responses to this thread. I thought that most people would stop without giving a second thought to their own safety (Given the fact that she was lying in the road in a pool of blood).
I am not saying that i think anyone is wrong in their views on this subject, just that i am suprised.
GMTV had some girl lay down on the pavement & only 2 people went to her assistance. What is wrong with our society it's a case of i'm alright jack f**k the rest. They probably thought the girl was going to rob them or beat them up.I would not hesitate in stopping & helping someone, there could be lots of reasons why someone has collapsed on the roadside,Epilepsy for one Diabeties etc.I think the French have the right laws,if you do not aid a person who has had an accident or such you can be prosecuted. All the drivers that went around the girl should be ashamed.

Unfortunately its the nasty horrible people that we have in our society of today that are to blame... Too many fakers make it harder for the honest people amongst us... Its a real shame...
I know its harsh to say but i dont think i could stop and help anyone... Unless i could see real signs of them being hurt or injured... I just think i would be more scared incase my own life was in danger...
There was an incident down South near where i used to live...
On a lovely sunny Sunday afternoon a family were enjoying a get together Bbq in their back garden... minding their own business etc... When there was alot of noise coming from the other side of the fence... Father & son innocently went out to ask them to quieten things down... The next minute they are being beaten up... Unfortunately the Father died due to this streak of uneccessary violence... He had taken a severe beating to the head which killed him...
This was an innocent family man enjoying quality time with his family and because he asked some kids to be quiet he lost his life....
We never know when are lives in danger...
This was on the ITN news the other night. I
t was in Sidcup Kent apparently, in the middle of the day (not at night or on a weekend) and the woman was lying actually in the road - full length across the lane so cars had to swerve to avoid running over her. She was picked up on the CCTV footage and also on the camera in the cab of the coach that stopped and could be seen for quite some distance.
From the footage shown it was obvious that it wasn't a scam - no-one would remain face down across a lane of a busy road (and it was busy) to attempt a robbery in broad daylight! Or at least not without having a deathwish!

We never know when are lives in danger... It was terrible what happened to the guy & yes sometimes getting involved can be a mistake, but this girl had a bad wound to the head & was bleeding badly so why didn't anyone stop to help??
It would be the same as well if you were downtown in Sheffield and you saw someone getting a good kicking.
I'd intervine - because thats the kind of person I am.
There is no need for violence in our society today..
and we need more good samaritans to sort this country out
at the moment!
I think I would give a lot of consideration to the situaion before I intervened.
For instance, if I see someone getting a good kicking, how would I know whether the person giving the kicking isn't in the process of defending themselves against an aggressor. Remember that if you pick the wrong party tohelp you are likely to end up being charged with assault. If however the bloke getting the kicking is a copper, pensioner or small child then I wouldn't hesitate to intervene.
If I saw someone lying on the side of the road in a dark street and there was no visible sign of injury I wouldn't approach. I'd park up, secure my doors and phone the police. If there was blood or injury evident then I would follow those rules as posted above,.....Look for dangers to yourself. Is it safe?
If the answer to this isn't a categorical 'YES' then I'm afraid I would have to follow the actions above.
Don't blame me, blame the dirtbags who put me in this frame of mind.
