After quite a long absence all the drunks, dossers and scum seem to have returned to Devonshire Green. Have the police suddenly stopped patrolling it? If not then surely they can see the groups of drunken scum threatening people and shouting f+++ off at everyone who passes?

I was down the bottom of the moor the other day. This was around 4pm and there was quite a few of them hanging around. One filthy individual was urinating down the side of the DFES building.

Yes they seem to have moved to the seating area outside the DfES, the security haven't moved them along, they should insults to all that walk in the building.

But can the DfES security move them ?
thats the question for today folks

Keep posting the comments - they will get moved on.

In all fairness if they do get moved on Tony won't they just find somewhere else to urinate, drink and insult people ? This process will just go on and on again ? I could be wrong, it has been known :gag:

they shouted some obscenity at me yesterday as I walked through the disused playground just past the washington, a delightful bunch of people.

There must have been about 10 of them, mostly male spread over 2 benches.

The council should remove the benches there, they serve no purpose other than as a meeting place for alchies.

I've noticed these charming individuals every now and then and what really bothewrs me is that although you can usually smell the booze coming off them from a distance there are still shops prepared to serve them. Pubs can refuse to serve someone who's obviously had a skinfull so why not off-licences.
If I ever get shouted at or abused I'll be going down to the Salvation Army hostel where some of them live and asking their staff to go and have a word with them. It might not be their responsibility but it's the hostel that brings some and I repeat some of the down and outs to that area.

It has been a pretty good summer (well compared with last year) for drunks and druggies. The police made a huge effort and Devonshire Green improved no end, it was almost a nice place to walk through. I suppose all the police have been moved on to other things and all the sh=te have re-occupied the green.
Mark my words someone will be murdered there one day it has gone right back to the state where people are getting too frightened to walk through it.

I posted about this a while ago - tempted to get the chainsaw out on those benches.

The SPAR on Ecclesall Rd, also seems to be a new hang out for them. It litterally has bums just hanging around all the time.

Maybe all the students can afford to give them cash, but they do my head in

You are all just jealous that you can't loose control like that. Lets be honest move them on and they'll just do the exact same somewhere else. Best thing is to ignore them and don't be intimidated by them. You big girls blouses.

You said in another thread:

"My grandmother always taught me if you can't say something nice then don't say anything at all."

Perhaps you should take her advice too and not just dispense it.

Oh so its your fear of the loss of property that makes them inhuman is it?

I'd like to say that I think the drunks on the green are a good thing and an asset to Sheffield. They add that layer of gritty urban realism that other cleaner cities lack. If you see disease and selfdestruction on your doorstep it makes you feel better and improves your self-esteem. Afterall, they are only a by-product of the ulta hedonist consumerism that we have all bought into so readily. If you don't want to see it then YOU have to change the society YOU live in. I
prefer to see those guys than those people that spend the week moaning about the drunks on the streets then spend the weekend brawling in the streets in puddles of their own bile on some monsterous bender. and as for them swearing at you and your fear of attack. Well, if you gave people some respect may be they wouldnt want to. I have NEVER been vebally abused by these people and I sometimes stop to chat. Why you are scared to walk through Devonshire Green? most moderately healthly person could out run an alcoholic whilst looking back and watching him bumping into bins and fences.
You don't know why any of those people are there and until you do shut the **** up moralising.

are you off your trolley?
Gritty urban realism? disease and self-destruction improves self esteem???? WTF!

Perhaps you will think I am moralising when I state that in my opinion you are one of the biggest friggin idiots I have ever heard from or of. I could go on by looking up all the mugging cases over the last year where people clearly could not out run the scum that are such an asset to us but it really won't do any good as I strongly suspect you are a basket case.

I suppose at least they are the genuine article, rather than all the proffessional beggars that spoil our city centre.

Please do so, in fact I'd suggest that you do look up every mugging case in Sheffield over the past year and post your findings. Who exactly are you labling "scum", the 10 or so homeless people who congregate around Devonshire Green? Homeless people in general? Or is this just another generalisation you use to describe people that you have no idea about? Homelessness, alcoholism and drug ABUSE are all massive problems that will never be reduced while people continue to have NIMBYist ideas and prejudiced preconceptions.
