You will need a PC to transfer the footage and edit it - or if you just want to view the footage you canplay direct through your TV, thats the same for mini DV and DVD - im not sure on the quality of DVD, but miniDV is great quality. Basically work out your budget and hunt around on the net, check reviews and stuff like that.

The only review of it i could find was in swedish... which sadly i didn't understand.

Although it did end with a rating of 1 out of 5 - that much i did get.

Minidv is essentially a tape, so pretty much still analogue. Newer cameras use either solid state memory (memory cards), direct-to-DVD recording, or hard disk recording, and are probably of comparable quality assuming similar lenses. I expect that a proper HD (as in high definition, not hard disk) camcorder would still be fairly expensive.

Your best bet is probably to get ahold of What Video Camera magazine or whatever they call them these days, and check out the buyer's guide, as they doubtless rate them according to performance by price bracket.
