View Full Version : Decent Italian restaurant in City centre?
goldenfleece 21-01-2007, 12:05 Can anyone recommend a decent italian restaurant in Sheffield centre? Looking for somewhere to eat tonight, must be Italian and preferably reasonably classy and not a bland pizza hut type of Italian......any suggestions? Also if its snowing or raining later pref within walking (running) distance of my pub......
Run up West Street to Piccolos next door but one to Nirmals, opposite side and 10 metres up from the Cavendish. Never had a bad meal there. Seems to be one of the few places I've never heard a bad word about at some time or other.
You could try La Gondola too, that's a bit nearer you (Carver St), but a bit hit and miss. BB's on Division Street can be fun too, but they have no alcohol licence - bring your own!
The Flying Pizza, Bad Name, awesome food!!!
B'Bs on Divison St is also awesome!
I've had some good meals at Ask (opposite John Lewis) and also Antibos (in West One)
Hello_Nikki 21-01-2007, 14:44 There's that italian place next to the winter gardens that looks really swish indeed. Not sure what its called tho..begins with "Z" I think...
You could try Maso on Surrey Street, it's a downstairs place near the Montgomery theatre. Whenever I've eaten there there seem to be quite a lot of Italian families dining too, which is a good sign. They do a rather good buffet style option at lunchtimes too.
happyhippy 21-01-2007, 16:22 Piccolo's without a doubt. It's just on the little side street running down the back of the Swim Inn (where Assee's offy used to be all those years ago .....). The Maitre D' is entertainment itself and the food is excellent. The prices are pretty reasonable, and the drinks selection is decent too.
Highly recommended mate.
Do you need to book for Piccolos?
The Flying Pizza, Bad Name, awesome food!!!
I wasn't that impressed with this one... food not up to much.
La Gondola opposite Flares is nice :)

Not always, but best to phone in advance, especially Fridays and Saturdays, needless to say.
A vote for The Flying Pizza here ^_^
magicaljen 21-01-2007, 20:10 Yep I likes flying pizza too....and la gondola was also pretty nice if I remember rightly!! :)
Sheffnewb 22-01-2007, 03:11 Flying Pizza is really good. I also like San Remo by the city hall but its shut sunday's.
I've been to Ask twice and had a crap meal both times, Flying Pizza is ok, but overpriced for pizza, San Remo opposite Yates Wine Lodge was ok last time I went.
Probably too late now, but there were some reports on this very site of Flying Pizza doing overcharging people by substituting a second bottle of wine ordered for a much more expensive bottle....
