Anyone agree? Calzaghe is great too but I think Hatton is the real deal.

I think youd have to give it a few years more years to say hes the best pound for pound boxer at the moment.

Hatton is past his best, you can clearly see the stress of gaining/shedding weight is having on his fitness.

Hatton is brilliant, but he will never be a Legend because he likes his ale too much.

I think he'd beat Castillo, but Cotto would destroy him.

Pound for Pound has to be Calzaghe or Mayweather.

I'm a fan of Ricky Hatton but I think the epic battle with Kostya Tszyu took more out of him than he would care to admit. The problem with his style of boxing is that he has always been prepared to be hit to get inside, but eventually this takes it's toll (ie. Barry McGuigan). It may be that he needs a super fight (ie. Floyd Mayweather) to motivate him into reaching the levels he can achieve again.

42-0 record speaks for itself

Steady on people!

Kostya Tszyu was largely inactive by the time he fought Ricky. Many people would say that Kostya's better days were behind him by the time he fought Ricky, but the performance was class nevertheless from Ricky.

And 42-0 really doesn't mean much, nor does all these alphabet titles that are flying around. It's the quality of the opponents that matters. How many 'live' opponents has Ricky faced?

The best thing he did is was dump Frank Warren as his promoter. If he hadn't, all he'd be doing is fighting at the MEN arena against journeymen. He seems like he is going after the big fights with true world class boxers, which is good to see.

The only concern is that Ricky blows up in weight in between fights. “I’ve got a problem with my legs,” he said last week. “They just can’t walk past a chippy". On the evidence of his Las Vegas debut on Saturday, they’re finding it increasingly difficult to make it through 12 rounds of world championship boxing. I believe this may get the better of him at some point and end up getting sparked by someone who he should beat easily.

8-9 weeks of training cannot make up for having a poor lifestyle the rest of the time. But having said that, he is unbeaten.

Hatton needs to step up a weight. He's probablyt he most talented fighter in this country at present.

I agree with you Rod on both accounts. The only problem I feel that at 5'6" he is a little too short to step up to Welterweight. Experts say he's one of the shorter Light-Welters out there currenly.

When he did step up to Welter and fought Louis Collazo, he did make hard work of that fight. But Collazo was a southpaw, and Ricky is know to have problems with southpaw boxers.

The big, big fights are at Welter, and I think Ricky should've given himself more time at that weight.

Styles make fights, that's why he won't fight Junior Witter. Although I think he would beat Witter, he will look very bad doing so. But that's another conversation!

For the big money from american PPV TV, you need to be in exciting fights. And on occasion, you don't necessarily have to win. Look at Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales. Both legends, made tons of cash but both have losses on their records.

I am a big fan of Ricky's but I think Calzaghe is more talented. Both are up there with all the pound for pound candidates though. I don't think Ricky can feasibly move up to welter.

Btw, was amused when the great Brendan Ingles said on Radio 5 recently that he thought Ricky was the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world but that Junior Witter would beat him!

Ricky Hatton has shown a tremendous amount of defiant boxing potential so far but it's too early to say at this early stage has he has a long way to go to prove to be one of the greats, one thing definetly in his favour though is the fact that he as a person is very level headed & has the right sporting attitude to acheive his goals. I for one hope he succeeds & wish him & all the fans to make us proud
