On the way to work this morning, the top path on the Ponderosa that runs parallel with Crookes Valley Road has been cordoned off.

I asked the policeman with the clipboard what'd happened. He said "We don't know, we're still evaluating the scene". So I asked again, "what's happened, has someone been attacked?", he then said "I can't tell you at the moment, sir". Which is what he should of said in the first place.

Does anyone know what happened?

Anyone know why part of The Ponderosa (just up from Sheffield Uni - Opposite Crookes Valley Park) has been cordoned off with Police tape? I asked the copper that was keeping an eye out and he said there was an incident.

When I asked what type of incident he said "An incident."

Just curious if anyone knows what's going on.

Ooops - just started a topic on this myself.

The coper would only tell me there's been 'an incident'.

The bit that's been cordoned off is popular with people that sell sex. Earlier this year a load off undergrowth was cut back to stop people using them for sex. I wonder if there's any connection?

this was in the Star...

"Sex attack in city centre

POLICE in Sheffield are investigating an allegation of serious sexual assault near the city centre.

A woman has told officers she was attacked at around 1am yesterday morning in the Ponderosa area of Upperthorpe.
Two entrances to the park, on Oxford Street, were yesterday sealed off with police tape as part of the ongoing investigation."

Is there any more info on this yet? Its very worrying to think
that somthing has happend like this so close to home. new students should beware when walking home from town at night/early morning make sure there is always a group of you around the area near harcourt road, not many of you will be aware but most of the houses on the oppisite side to the park are owned by sheffield hostels and there are many ex offenders and drug addicts living in them. a couple of years ago one of these hostel dwellers coshed my bloke over the head with a large lump of wood (whilst he was a student) he had dozens and dozens of stitches. it wouldnt suprise me if the offenders come from that area hope they catch him and put him away

Not that I am babbling on or anything but....
I noticed in last nights star that there were reports of another attack on the 30th further up crookesmoor road (the conduit road end) one of the roads that runs off it at the top (cant remember what its called) A female was bashed over the head from behind and knocked to the floor, she did however manage to fight off the attacker and thinks she left a nasty scratch on his face with her ring.
I did hear that the pondarosa rape was a very violent and nasty attack without going into too much detail , and the chances are these attacks are linked. police have asked the public if anyone they know had an unexplained facial injury just after the 30 th of sept to let them know if you think the two may be linked .

That's really worrying. I'd kind of assumed that the person attacked was a sex worker. Not that it makes much difference, but do you know if it's true?

No apparently it was just a woman on her way home from a night out (on both occasions). I certainly wont be walking around after dark alone this winter

That's really scary. If there's a potential sex attacker about the coppers should at leaset let people know.

Be safe!

Thats my thoughts too.. I am suprised at the lack of information from the police, especially since theres a high number of young female students populating this area. Two attacks in such a small area in the space of a few days apart, its very worrying to think that theres someone out there doing it. and they all seem to be centred around crookesmoor road or the near vacinity.
Females will have to be very aware in the next few months hopefully the police will catch the lowlife

I think Police are loath to point out particular areas as problem areas very quickly, because the public may get hold of the implication that areas that they don't issue specific warnings about are 100% safe.
