View Full Version : What did my son do to mess up my computer display?
fox20thc 20-01-2007, 10:45 He was on the pc this morning and then suddenly he wasn't. When I asked him why he told me he had broken it :o
I switched it on and everything was upside down, words folders, even the welcome screen.
I practically had to stand on my head to do a system restore which fixed it, but does anybody know what he did?
did he press some of the buttons on the monitor?
fox20thc 20-01-2007, 10:48 no I thought that so I went to the monitor menu and that was the right way around :)
go in your VGA options and flip it back round :hihi:
I think Alt + the direction keys changes the picture orientation. I don't feel like giving it a try myself right now though.

neither do I :hihi:
Jabberwocky 20-01-2007, 11:45 My three year old did this to my pc last year. I didnt know at the time that its simple to fix-- I forget how to do it now, but I set the system restore the same way that you did.
Somewhere on the forum are instructions to set it all right, I remember seeing the thread a few weeks ago, so unless the thread was deleted in the cull, itll still be around somewhere.
fnkysknky 20-01-2007, 11:52 A lot of graphics drivers have options for rotation in them. Exactly where the option is will vary depending on the manufacturer.
The_DADDY 20-01-2007, 11:59 neither do I :hihi:

Try Control, Alt and the Up arrow key at the same time. Otherwise maybe its this :

Tell me about it! :hihi:
It's a property of the Intel graphics driver (other manufacturers may also use it) you can rotate the screen with the ALTGR key and the direction arrows - fun to do on someones PC who doesn't know about it :)
melthebell 20-01-2007, 19:16 id have just turned monitor upside down :hihi:
not supposed to do that, unless the monitors made for it
some mame games your supposed to do that, think ive got an old playstation shoot em up with a game mode your supposed to do that with yer telly too
sallonoroff 20-01-2007, 22:31 It is ctrl-alt-[directional cursor] to rotate the screen... and kids always have a knack of doing it!
It is definitely a puzzler the first time you see it. :D
You can go into the display properties and turn of these 'hot keys' fortunately!
.
My son and I have both been trying to turn our screen images :hihi: :hihi: - but none of the CTRL/ALT things work at all :( , so maybe all the 'hot' keys have been turned off!! Steve went into the settings on the control panel and tried it and it worked then though. Think I might try it at work on mine first, then on someone else's :hihi: :hihi: !!!!
.
alchresearch 21-01-2007, 13:48 The hot keys only work if you have an Intel graphics chipset, and the hotkey application installed and running.
