tell us your favourite and worst things about sheffield..

Worst: How it often feels so grey and horrible for long periods of time. I almost feel like I'm living in Moscow during the winter. But I think that's because I'm a bit of a rural beast and living slap back in the city centre still strikes me as odd.

Best: The city itself, it's a lively bubbling place with lots of friends people. I've made a lot of friends in the few years I've been here! It's also currently reinventing itself and I love wandering around the city looking out for 'what's new'. Oh and the trams... I bloody love 'em!

Worst- The annoying chavs that hang around the parks and street corners with their bottles of white lightning throwing rocks at ure window grrrrrrr!
the drunken students that find it amusing to jump infront of your car,
the grimy streets, crap weather, baad traffic, poor road condition, high bus fares................. shall i go on?
Best- ummmmm.....................................the bit just on the outskirts where it starts to look pretty nice with fields n stuff lol

WORST.
The city is obviously anti car

Worst: The attitude teenagers have these days between the ages of 12-17. (I'm 17 by the way). I think it may be the lack of things to do, or it might be how alot of entertainment is disproportionatly in the city center... whatever reason, the behaviour of kids between the ages of 12-17 isn't good and needs sorting out quickly.

Best: Once you hit 17-18 and can participate in the night life of Sheffield, it takes you off the streets causing trouble and means ALOT of fun. Mind you, I'm from Ecclesall so I don't really see too much trouble going on, to read above that 'chavs' throw rocks at people's windows makes me angry, although maybe if we gave them more stuff to do then it'd take 'em off the streets... oh i dunno lol

BEST:
The rural country side all within 10 mins drive.

WORSE:
No coast anywhere in sight, I love the sound of the sea.

Aren't you being a bit stereotypical there? Sure, most kids from 12-17 are usually up to no good, but lots are nice, decent people. The only kids you really see or hear about are the ones who misbehave because they are out misbehaving! What about children who are good - you hardly hear about them nowadays.

I think the fact that the buses refuse to work after 5pm is really annoying.
eg. waiting for 45 mins for 3 of the same bus to come in a row

Worst: Traffic. Takes up to an hour to do a 15 minute journey

Best: Victoria Quays, being short distance from Peak District, the trees, birds, Rother Valley, close to M1, Peace Gardens, Botanical Gardens.

Worse: Has to be the bus service and the traffic. I waited 45 mins for a bus in the freezin cold.

Fave: Nightlife, Countryside, Trams and the shops.

I wouldnt say chav's as they are everywhere. I know theres a little chav in all of us somewhere anyways ;)

the worst things are: the horrible castle market
lack of a decent outdoor market
the amount of beggars and big issue sellers
the clogged up road network
the incompetent city council
the large number of chavs and hoodies

Have you never been to Manchester, London or Leeds then?

Because Sheffield is the Garden of Eden in comparison.

Best - It's close to the Peak District and it's green :D
Worst - There are far too many traffic lights that seem useless and make more traffic, maybe it's because i am from a small, well very small city.

Best- The city in summer time. always being close to a rural retreat somewhere. the views, fromt he many hills in sheffield. and the walk into town through walkley-crookes-broomhill.

worst- the flocks of southern middle clarss students. the councils and peoples lack of faith in puplic transport, not extending the tram to the hospitals.

Best - Amazing views of city and countryside from the hills

Worst - All the nice old buildings being knocked down to make way for horrible unimaginatively designed flats with square windows

Oh big style, I know alot of people around my age that wouldn't do a thing to hurt anyone, and thats great. Of course you don't hear alot about the kids who do good things and too much about the kids that do bad things. That's the media for you, if it's good it's not gonna sell the paper. lol

Best: a.) 2 universities = fun, funky city
b.) lots of top notch venues for athletics training i.e. EIS, Don Valley and loads of hills for running up and down

i suppose manchester and london might be worse than sheffield but as a regular visitor to LEEDS i don't think it is anywhere near as bad a sheffield. as soon as you leave midland station you are pounced upon by THIEVES, BIG ISSUE SELLERS, DRUGGIES, CHAVS, BEGGARS AND MISFITS that are in such huge numbers it's hard to spot any normal people.

best - a nice veriety of places to go,, shops etc.. on a whole,.. nice people. pretty cultured.

worst - the road surface. and the chav estates.

I've never known such a place as Leeds for chavs being everywhere - you simply can't move for them in Leeds city centre. It's got this whole air of menace about it that I haven't come across in Sheffield, although I have occasionally felt it in Manchester.

Sheffield is just SO much more pleasant.

Worst: The accents (sorry...but my within a week of moving up here my wife has started picking up some of the colloquialisms and dropping all her definite and indefinite articles...and it drives me insane)

Nice. Sometimes i can't help being a cynic but please. the worst accent there is, is the middle clarss generic southerner who gets the bas(bus). eats hanny(honey). etc. the kind of people who coem to sheffield simply for the cheaper living costs when compared to London.

Don;t understand how looknorth manage to Show SUFC, Leeds united, scunthorpes and barnsleys goals from saturday, before showing wednesday's.

When SWFC clearly have the biggest fanbase.

Didn't say it was the worst accent there is: Brummy wins that hands down. Its just the worst thing about Sheffield...I'm pretty happy here

Best: Record Collector + Rare & Racy, the parks, proximity to the Peak District, the fit women!

Worst: the 'petrol heads'/boy racers on Abbeydale Rd, Taggers, grim industrial buildings around the city centre.

Worst: The abysmal roads. First Mainline.

Best: The Fantastic nightlife and the brilliant people that i've met. Would never live anywhere else.

best: my daughter, my wife, my house, my life, ranmoor tandoori (best curries in sheffield followed by our good friend mr Jaflong and on a really wild night a good trip to sahibs butlers aint bad and 7 spices also there) my mates, the best nights out ever oh and a certain football team in the S6 area.
worst: sheffield city council they have constantly screwed us for bloody council tax they reckon we owe from ages ago, even though you pay by direct debit, and they always try and screw you when its december, when cash is tight and you want to give your daughter the best christmas you can, down with the council! filthy chuff touchers!

I was born n bred in Sheffield but dont have that broad rather 'common' sounding accent that people from, say, Hillsborough have. Im grateful for that too. I sound more intelligent, and would tend to do better in job interviews etc as obviously many people have prejudices about accents.

Outsiders say to me 'you dont sound like youre from Sheffield'. I say all Londoners dont sound like they should be on Eastenders. Me? im from the Westside!

Best: the tram system and proximity to the Peak district
Worst: trying to get a car repaired in this godforsaken hole. - oh and the racism about people from the south ;) - and Sheffield United playing at home which seems to turn my road into a parking zone - never mind the fact the residents need to get in or out or need emergency vehicles. and the road surfaces are really bad.
