Do they do the pizza sub in this country? Last time i went in i was disappointed to see they didn't have mustard. It is the best of the American fast food places.

You have nooooo idea how happy I was to see a subway in sheffield at long long long last...

I got hooked 14 years ago in Canada so it was a case of cold turkey... *boom boom*... for quite a while...

OK ok... sorry about the pun there... truly awful but the subways aren't.... :)

Maybe we'll start getting all those annoying adverts about the Subway diet here soon, that guy who made it famous, or the fat twins... never know. :D

I'm presuming "Subways" is a bakery?

Do you have Percy Ingle up (t)here? They're excellent- sausage rolls are tasty :P

I prefer a Cooplands ploughmans sarnie, though some of the branches are a bit stingy with the filling.

The advantage of Subway is that unlike other fastfood chains you can see what's going in the sandwich and the staff are quite happy to add what YOU want in terms of salad and dressings. That alone recommends the place to me over the usual experience of bland food served by disaffected teenagers in an unpleasant environment.

Surely that's yet another american copy... There must be around 50+ sandwich shops in Sheffield, all good !
the best has to be Mr B's on Chesterfield Rd, followed by Supa Snax on Edmund/Charlotte Rd
As far as i know, all their ingredients are behind the glass, in its refrigerated environment, you ask for what garniture you want (topping makes it look like a pizza :p ), and ask for a sauce if you want some. Honnest, what's new about that ?

Never said there was anything new about it, save for the fact that it's a US franchise that sells moderatly healthy food and employs staff that seem to be quite happy with their jobs.

There are many fine sandwich shops in Sheffield, many of which I have patronised over the years. But there are times when a pleasant American style sub-roll sandwich makes a welcome change from the choice between "coronation" and "chinese" chicken.

West street? Thats about 1min from the current one

BTW. "Subways" as people seem to wrongly call it are a Canadian company, not a US company. And they are still owned by the people who set them up all those years ago.

Nooooo. Spare us more of the bland conformity that blights city centres the country over...

The sandwiches they serve are very bland, anyway. If you want a decent bite of a lunchtime, head up to West Street and try out Relish. Yum! :P

Actually, it's American, and was founded in Connecticut in 1965 by Fred DeLuca. It is the second largest fast food chain in the world, and is a franchise so the stores aren't actually owned by Subway, I believe, as they simply sell the name to the owner of the store and sell them all the goods that are needed.

This also means that, unless they have the same owner, the two Subway stores that will be 2 minutes away from each other will be in competition and not part of the same business.

there is one opening on west street orchard square and 2 more opening not sure where they are all going to be owned by the same person, and the one on west street may be open later than the current one or even 24h. During the 12-2 lunchtime there are normally over 100 sandwiches made an hour and thats why there opening more.

But yes it is very expensive for what it is. Nice choc cookies tho!

Yeah I really dig subways - especially the ones in Sheffield - tho they can smell of pee sometimes and be poorly lit - otherwise they are very useful for avoiding traffic ..

We've just been in for lunch to see what all the fuss is about. It was chaotic! You get rushed along the counter, following your sandwich along as it gets passed from one person to the next, each one adding one or two more fillings to it! It seems very rushed, and you hardly get time to think about what you want before your sandwich is wrapped and bagged. The poor lad at the till has to find your order under a pile of other identical looking packages! I was amazed we came out with what we'd ordered!
The sandwich was OK, I think you can get just as good at some other places (and a lot worse at other places as well!) but I only ordered a beef salad so it's hard to go wrong with that. I will try it again though and next time I'll try something hot as they looked nicer (or I'll go to the Devonshire Chippy)!

yeh but all the packages are put in order so you will get the right one :-) which was my job today! were only trying to get your sandwhich made as fast as possible for you at lunch time when we do over 100 sandwhiches an hour try about 4 o clock its dead at that time!

I got into Subway when I was in Toronto in 98. I used to have the footlong meatball and cheese. Yummy. I didn't eat salad then but I do now and the spare-rib and lettuce with honey n mustard does it for me every time. :D

Yeh it's a little more expensive but it's worth it to escape from McBlandness with fries. Better for you as well. I've always been more of a sandwich person. :)

Where did you try Quizno's? We had them in Canada, their subs are definitely nicer and I loved the way they grilled them, but they did cost a pretty penny compared to Subway.
