You can walk to ground zero from there; it’s a bit of a walk but a good way to see the city. When you get your bearings you may want to take the subway to save time and energy though. Limos are 10 a penny in the US so they can be priced reasonably, although 40 seems v. cheap. Ground Zero is a short walk to Battery Park where you get the ferry to Ellis Island (well worth it).

We stayed at the Milford Plaza a couple of years ago,and I was really worried as to what it would be like having read some really bad stories about it,but I shouldn't have worried as it was fine, the room was ok the staff was ok in fact very helpful, they were keen on security though. It couldn't be nearer Times Square than it is, everything is close by and it's an excellent place to stay so no worries.Try to go on the evening cruise down the Hudson River, it was breathtaking, also the tours around New York in the Red London Buses were well worth doing as you can get on and off as many times as you want.
The Milford Plaza is also Known as the Lullaby of Broadway, which was a song title years ago, and I asked a policeman for directions when we first got there, he was a big black guy and suddenly he burst into song in the middle of Times Square singing Lullaby of Broadway to me, I was so embarrassed at the time but now it is such a pleasant memory. I hope you enjoy every minute of your stay.
