What are your real names, and why did you chose your user name??

My real name is Algernon Theodore Twisington-ffellowes-Chalmondley-Featherstonehaugh.....;)

Any surprise I use the soubriquet JoeP?

Unsurprisingly, the real handle is JoeP. It's sort of traditional on the Net to use handles. I use my real name a lot because it helps me NOT to post stuff that is insulting and offensive; by using my own name I stand behind my own words.

And like most people I LOVE the sound of my own name!

Only now? You should try discussing the merits of a Mars bar over a Snickers. Guaranteed someone will turn it into a racist thread before it gets past the starting gate.

Maybe we should start a newbies forum where new people can go, get clued up on forum goings-on and not be tempted to start threads that have already been done a few times already.

In the mean time why not extend a little patience to the newer members instead of jumping all over them. It's nice to feel welcome isn't it. :D

I like to think of myself as a non-newbie now, but can't remember seeing a 'Who Are You' thread before. Maybe my short term memory goes with age.

I know that repeating threads can be annoying, but really we need to show some tolerance for new folks.

If there's a thread you don't want to read then don't f*****g read it! It's not rocket science, for crying out loud! If you dislike the threads that are here then put your own up, rather than just poo-poo other's efforts.

Thanks Joe- and Pauly to be honest I am new to using forums and i think they are great, but its not so great when people are rude and totally insulting, I promote this forum to many people.

My question was simple and I havent seen it before,so if you dont want to read it what are you doing reading it, what interesting things have you got to add to this forum,be careful you might get your head bitten off!

So excuse me everyone, I am fairly new - and other new people dont be put off.

You know, I thought we'd done this one before a long time ago, so I did do a search and came up with nothing. I tried several different words but still nothing on user names. We discussed avatars and why we chose them. So what if we've had this topic before? It must have been well over a year ago cos I couldn't find it. So if you participated in this before then ignore it and move on. For new comers I don't see it as boring. Can't be as boring as what colour pepper you prefer (sorry Jamie, that was boring)

My last name is Funke, which is German. 88 was my bus when I was at school. Fulwood to Brocco Bank. It got changed but I still see it as the 88. It's my lucky number too.

Try this: http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8221

Besides, my comment was more about the current tidal wave of threads about meeting up, who you'd like to meet, who you really are, etc etc. Surely they can all be covered under one thread.

I'm Alex :)

Why that username? Don't know. I have three, and one is used for a few, one is used for other sites, and another for a couple of other sites.

Alex :)

It's not the 'Who are you' part of the post that is the repeat Joe, It's the 'Why did you choose your username' that has been done before:)
Here, I think -

OK....it's been done before, I stand corrected.

:)

But t020 - again, if you don't want to read the threads don't read 'em! I've read this one, but not interested in the 'Who I've met' thread. We have spiffy software that supports threads and organises them....so what's the problem?

Perhaps we could go to extremes and have one dirty great thread that covers everything....;)

I have to agree with Joe on this one. To me it always seems like there are some folks waiting for another forum user to post a thread they can pull apart and hijack rather than participate in the actual exchange of ideas and opinions. I name no names, but how many times have you walked away from a thread in disgust at the intellectual grand-standing and pedantic bullying that characterises posters who sould know better?

Frankly there are some users who'd be best served by keeping their names and faces under wraps.

reproduced from elsewhere.

Underlying the value of any formal structure must be the sincere intent to learn what phanerothyme has to teach, to support one's companions in their search, and to put the insights gained into practice in living. Indeed, without such intent, there may be drugs and drug effects but there is no phanerothyme. For we have defined the latter first as a state of mind and only secondly as the chemicals that facilitate it. Let us, then, not encourage careless use of drugs, but let us seek freedom for phanerothyme, for anything that can help us make this world a bit more sublime ought neither to be suppressed nor squandered.

This seems a rather strange response from someone who once said that all Forum threads should be restricted to political discussions (or words to that effect), which I find offensively boring, hence my cryptic post earlier, which was not aimed at this particular thread.

On topic, my name is Judy and my username is simply my maiden name, something which certain Forum users find difficult to cope with as one arrogant sexist git (who'se name I won't mention, but I found out recently it's Portugese for 'Cross-dresser'), took offence and advised me to pick a distinctly female username, otherwise he would set about me with some of that Feng Shui martial arts nonsense. There's no pleasing some folk.

Yours
Looby-Lu

31-10-2004, 07:30
I'm Daniel but I use The Bodgie because it was the name of a really cool book I picked up about the bodgie teenage sub-culture in 1950's New Zealand. Filled with drawings of naughty schoolkids smoking behind the fence, and breaking into cars, etc - I just found it really amusing.

One book seller's description...

"Their hairdo's!, their fleecy-lined parkas!, their secret rites of the milk-bar!, what they spend their pocket money on!, where they are when they should be at church! All is revealed!! Gasp along with the good doctor (an Auckland psychologist) as he dissects the bodgie and the widgie to discover a paradigm of modern evil and perversion. (Yes, some of them are even queer!) "Dedicated to MY WIFE whose great personal sacrifices made the research and writing possible". OOOOh! Perhaps she was tied to a juke-box by "Ethel" and "Graham", while "Gail" subjected her to a diabolical performance of "reality evasion" daubed in grubby "mental hygiene", before "selectively forgetting" to let her go. Comes complete with psychiatric glossary - so you'll know how to defend yourself when you see one in the street!"

There's a lot of crazy people out there Roy, I think anonimity is probably the wise way to go on the web.
I'm like Joe though, not being anonymous does help me self moderate my postings most of the time (the exception being when I'm drunk).

Then you have a lot to learn about the internet.

First thing I do when I look at a C.V with a view to inerviewing them is google them. If I googled you and saw some of your postings on here you wouldn't get past the first hurdle....

think about it eh?

Do they live in the same area, have the same interests on the c.v., have worked at the same places, confirm details with phone call, contact previous employers....
blah, blah etc etc..
