View Full Version : Ideas for team night out
dramadiva 19-01-2007, 10:33 Right, we are having a few problems at work trying to decide a team night out. We don't finish work until 10pm, but can get away by 9ish if we are lucky.
It will probably be a friday night - things we have done already are bowling and going for a meal. Ideally we would like to try something different, and something that possibly doesn't have to involve alcohol as we have some Muslims on our team.
It may be a tall order but does anyone have any ideas???:help:
dramadiva 19-01-2007, 15:59 Casino, enough said
the muslims won't go - they don't gamble....
Try west street live bar,
Watch a gig in a nice atmos drinkers can drink non drinkers can drink soft drinks!
Its a tough one that!
Won't gamble, won't drink...?
I'm sorry, but if they refuse to join in then that is up to them. This is Britain, not Afghanistan.

That sounds like its gonna be a real fun night out for them doesn't it
dramadiva 20-01-2007, 21:23 tell me about it! - looks like bowling again then....
It doesn't have to be a no bar place. Maybe if you asked the muslim team mates whether they're ok in a smokey/bar place. I thought that as long as you have a non-alcoholic selection of drinks, then it'll be fine.
If it's Friday, the only thing I can think of is Cubana's. If you choose a night which plays salsa or latin music, then people can have a chance to dance! :) (They alternative latin music with 70s-80s music or something like that on a Friday night. So be warned.) It has a 1am closing time. Plus, I think they may serve food til 10pm, or later, if you ring up and ask first. It is a good place for a large group. Cos they serve tapas. You can choose from a flexible selection. From meat, to veggie, to seafood. It makes everyone happy. Ask to sit on the right-hand side of the room. Cos they move the tables away on the left-hand side to make the dance floor, and so for those who don't want to dance, but sit and chit chat, they can too, on the right. Or they can move to the left, if they wish to. Plus there is a bar which serves Cuban, Latin American beers too. (Also the usual drinks.)
The other thing I was going to suggest is to choose a very quiet pub, where you can play board games or something.
Either that, or laser quest? Cinema ? What about a movie and drink in The Showroom ? It's a shame, cos I know they do salsa classes in Leeds on a Fri night. Then it's open floor, and free music for practising in a bar. Unsure where you can get that in Sheffield on a Fri.

it's selfish encouraging people to gamble and drink. they are known as vices for a reason.
the cinema would be a good idea, maybe the theatre?, would there be anything on at the arena? night fishing maybe, a game of football?
dramadiva 21-01-2007, 08:47 cheers for the ideas guys!
i thought earlier, snokeer, pool you could have a mini tournament.
This just popped into mind too. If sports centre closes late, then maybe a sports activity then food ? e.g. Badminton, basketball, 5-a-side footie, netball, indoor hockey... A lot of curry houses also closes late too. So food is not out of the question either. There's also a fish and chips place on Division St. Or find a late night greasy cafe or something.

Can I suggest that if you need to have a 'team' gathering all the time, you might want to think about why?
If you 'have' to bring your team together socially, and you 'have' to ask others how to do it, then perhaps you 'have' to look at your own team's structure.
If you can't sort this out among you .........
happyhippy 22-01-2007, 03:52 I'm going to apologise for that straight away. It was harsh, but I'll still say you should work it out among yourselves.
I didn't mean it to be as horrid as it sounded.

no offence taken - it's a company incentive type thing, if you reach your quarterly targets you get some cash for your team - but we have to provide receipts for whatever we do. We have individual prizes for the teams top performers and improvers, and whatever is left we use for team nights out every so often. We have caterers bring food in, we've been out for meals, we did a trip to alton towers last year (but not everyone is prepared to do things in their own time), have been bowling, been for a curry, all you can eat chinese....
..just getting a bit bored of the same old thing and looking for some suggestions/inspiration.

Ha!!!!
Unfortunately the team took a vote last night and it was decided that we are all gonna go to the local wetherspons (bankers) fri next week for some food. How exciting, i was up for the Chinese Karaoke place on rockingham gate but was out voted......
For team building, I'd always say it's quite good to do some kind of activity thing like karting or Go Ape (during the day), then the usual meal and drinkies after. Guess it depends on peop's budgets...
KJ_VENOM 26-01-2007, 11:10 why not ask the muslim team members if they have any ideas for a fun night out
do all your plans have to be approved by the muslim council of great britain?
