as mentioned in my previous post i walk a lot in RIvelin valley. something has always puzzled me though,,
in the area known as 'den bank' there are a number of carvings in the rock, primarily a HUGE lion next to a sword. does anybody know the history of these? or ANYTHING about them?
cheers

on the area known as 'den bank'..just off the main path going on the top..towards the 'old tennis-courts' from the entrance on hagg lane. if you get to the large flat rock with a crack down the middle you've gone too far. the carvings face out towards the valley on a large rock which slopes away from the path.
hope this helps.

I've seen these carvings and always wondered about them. The Lion is 'rampant' if memory serves. There's also a circle too, right? I don't think they're that old, but they look really cool. I might try to get out there when I'm in Sheffield next month and take some photos. My sister lives in Crosspool, so I can just walk along the hill...

I grew up on Den Bank Drive and i remember seeing them as a kid. Always wondered what they were from or why they were there. This is almost 20 years ago now so they have been there for a while.
