Reading the Star on saturday I came across the nostalga pictures
One showing the boat race
Anyone remember this apart from me ??;)

I remember standing on Rutland Rd bridge watching them go underneath, seem to recall people throwing bags of flour at them. The boat race finished at Lady's bridge I think. Not sure if it was above or below the weir.

I remember standing on Lady's bridge, watching them getting pelted with eggs and flour.

I am not sure, but I think the bridge was the finish line, but most rode the weir anyway for comedy value

I remember this well,standing on neepsend bridge throwing flower eggs,tomatoes at the people on the boats.not sure but wasnt it some thing to do with rag day(students)?
and the next day wasnt it the lord mayors parade??

It would probably have been the Rag Day parade either the day before or after. My mum's always telling me how poor everyone was, so how come they could afford to waste all that food? Eggs, flour and tomatoes, could have made a tomato flan.
