What is the best car chase in a film?

Bullitt or Blues Brothers.

There's only one that I will watch over and over again, it's from a fairly old film with the classic line
'You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off'
Most other car chases involve american cars and look rubbish, leaping the brow of hills in San Fransisco or going into corners with lots of wildly inflated sound effects but with no actual signs of skidding, Hollywood---PAH

Would this be the 1969 Paramount film called the Italian Job? The one that originally had Robert Redford in the lead role of Charlie? The one that had the ending changed to allow a sequal? Yeah who needs Hollywood, eh? :rolleyes:

The clue I gave was obviously too easy, maybe I should of said 'the film in which Benny wanted a mirror' or even 'a film that made me slightly sad to see the death of a Jaguar'
I must of seen it over twenty times over the years but I still love certain bits of the car scenes in particular when they hide on the roof of a building and of course going through the storm drains, just be grateful I never owned a mini I hate to imagine what I'd of got up to.

Ronin has a good car chase, the opening scene in Final Destination 2, not exactly a car chase but a stunning scene, especially good in 5.1 surround with the sound turnd up loud!

No one has mentioned the French film Taxi yet or Taxi 2.

bad boys 2 has a good car chase but i dont think its the best ever.

I used to love the car chase sequence in Bullit until somebody on one of those 'film glitch' programs pointed out that Steve McQueen passes the same Volkswagen Beetle several times. I can't watch the film now without spotting that damn Beetle. It sort of spoils the effect a bit.

My god how could you all forget The Dukes of Hazzard!! Or may be I was side tracked by the sight of Daisy Dukes arse cheeks sliding into a tight openning!

it has a few good car chases in there, I love the part when the 'bad guys' are dropping the cars onto the road when they are driving. Superb
