View Full Version : Anyone else got odd knitting habits? Please share!
knitbird 15-01-2007, 20:05 Mine are:
*Always choosing patterns with set-in sleeves, despite the fact that I really HATE the setting-in process.
*Really liking a quick knit, but generally choosing a pattern in 4-ply or DK.
*Always confusing left with right, so I have to check what side the button band is on my other cardigans, before knitting one onto my work in progress. (I once put the buttons on the wrong side, it's amazing how much you notice it)
*Being WAY too optimistic about how long it takes to finish anything, or how difficult a pattern would be.
*Buying bargain yarn, and not having a clue what to make with it.
Just felt the sharing could be cathartic...
I always doubt my row counter. I convince myself that it's lying and that it's wrong and that I'm not really on that row. Evil row counter!
* Having a strange fondness for knitting kids' clothes, even though I neither have kids nor like them very much.
* Always choosing the pattern which looks straightforward from the photo, but has for some reason been written in the knitting equivalent of hieroglyphics. Don't get me wrong, I can follow a pattern, but some seem to insert ten extra steps for the fun of doing so.
* Being attracted to, and knitting, lovely lacy sock patterns, even though I only tend to wear basic black socks.
* Not actually wanting to wear the stuff I make for fear of 'spoiling' it.
* Having a strange desire to catalogue my yarn stash in Excel (though I've managed to resist so far).
* Obsessively checking the stitch count at least three times before starting to knit.
I'm sure there are more to add too :hihi: .

I need to steal this one!

I dont need to steal this one as its one of my quirks
I slide my needles in and out of my hair if they are sticking.I saw my Gran do this when I was little and was fasinated by it.
knitbird 20-01-2007, 17:36 Never heard of that before! Does it actually work, or does it just make you feel better?
littleblue 20-01-2007, 18:21 I think it might have something to do with the natural oils in your hair.
I could be wrong.
It does - parchment crafters do it with their tools, so that they slide more easily on paper.
My odd habit:
If my pattern calls for, say, No 10 needles, I will open my needle case and grab two size 10's, regardless of the length, so I can be knitting on one short one and one very long one, or even a double ended one!! I don't lob them when the little knob at the end drops off either - I stick an elastic band on it instead.
Another thing I do is to knit both sleeves at the same time (unless I picked up a very, very short needle) because by the time I have done a front and a back, I am getting very bored with the whole thing. I sometimes do both fronts of a cardi at the same time too (but not at the same time as the sleeves).
