Miss_smiley 26-09-2004, 21:19 Yes, I do, I have surround sound which usually is absoloutely brilliant, but I find I always have to reach for the volume control when that ad comes on. very annoying. Carmine 29-09-2004, 10:08 Has anyone else ever noted the fact that the volume on the tv seems to go up when the ruddy adverts come on? Or am I just going slowly mad? sarah_d 29-09-2004, 10:50 I'm a librarian and that's exactly what the staff get up to in the office!! Carmine 29-09-2004, 10:51 You all get together during your morning break and film adverts for confectionary manufacturers? nomme 29-09-2004, 11:20 Originally posted by Carmine Has anyone else ever noted the fact that the volume on the tv seems to go up when the ruddy adverts come on? Or am I just going slowly mad? I believe that the volume doesn't go up but your perception of the sound makes it seem that way. They use something called 'compressed sound' in adverts which makes it appear louder. They do this in an attempt to catch your attention but I must admit I don't know how or why this phenomena occurs. I wish - the cash would come in useful.I would love to go in a room and scream, not at the students but at the staff i work with.Maybe i should post on the thread about colleagues. There's always one that you'd love to clout around the head with a shovel, I tend to find... foxy27 05-10-2004, 10:59 theres nothing wrong with the libraians wanting to go in the back room to have a good bang is there? Stand by with your finger poised over the mute button when the adverts come on sarah_d 05-10-2004, 11:03 Originally posted by foxy27 theres nothing wrong with the libraians wanting to go in the back room to have a good bang is there? Don't be so cheeky! ToryCynic 05-10-2004, 11:07 Yes, it is extremely annoying - I usually flick through the channels when adverts are on. Nomme Essentially a compressor modifies extremes of sound to be within a certain range - used frequently on radio (that's why the music cuts out when the dj talks over the track). Sooo... when you get adverts they just set the compression rate higher, so the adverts come in around 30% louder than the network standard rate. This is known as agressive compression. Ok, you can all wake up now!! |
