I saw this on the City Council's Website.
Sheffield Transport Policy
The City Council has produced a 'Plan for Transport in Sheffield' which sets out the Transport Policy for the City for the next five years based on the South Yorkshire Local Transport Plan. The 'Plan for Transport in Sheffield' and an accompanying newsletter were considered by the Council's Cabinet Members on Wednesday 25th October.
:hihi:
im guessing its gonna be, more speed cameras, bumps, and traffic lights, mad alterations less buses and increased fares for all public transport.
are they might shock us and actually incite use of public transport

No doubt it will be some hare brain scheme to force us on to non existant "public" transport!
It does appear that SCC are tinkering about at the edges. I appreciate that money is spent on road safety and filling in the occasional pothole, but where are the big schemes to encourage us not to use the car for every journey.
The PUFFIN crossing outside the station makes pedestrians wait for a fair amount of time and when questioned about this the reply was that otherwise there would be large queues of traffic. Pedestrians and cyclists seem to get any left over funding. Public transport schemes have provided little improvement for users (although I am sure that operators' profits are rising).
I would like to use public transport more, but before I can be told that, it needs to be made an attractive option.

Sheffield council dont maintain roads, they just repair as needed, this has been policy for years & years, they find other schemes to sink millions in to. Take a drive to any other mayor city in the country & you'll find the roads better than ours!

I got a glossy leaflet shoved through my door about the council transport policy. It looked interesting and so on behalf of a few old folk who live at Woodseats rang the number and asked when if ever they were going to reinstate a direct bus service from Woodseats to the hallamshire hospital.
Well what a suprise the council can't do much if anything about getting First the bus company to put buses on quieter routes so we're not getting the 59 back on.

They're going to bring back Clive Betts.

Was'nt he the one who cut the night buses in the 90's and could'nt get 20 odd% of street lamps working.
we don't need attractive public transport just a reasonable alternative to cars. If i buy a day saver for £4, i want to be able to catch a bus from midnight till 6am if i need to, otherwise they should just sell 3/4 day savers for £3.
Also when travelling from say east to south sheffield i have to go into town to get a bus straight back out, which takes nearly the same amount of time as walking it. So i want buses that run around the city additional to those that run through it.
If buses ran 24/7 and Sheffield had more routes which which ran round the city and not just through it, people wouldnt have to use cars as much because they would be a suitable alternative (which would become an ideal alternative if the prices dropped [or didn't rise quicker than yorkshire puddings])
