hi could someone please help me i have a virus worm thing that reboots my pc i cant even access my desktop it does the windows XP loading bar then reboots and keeps on doing it i am posting this messge from a friends pc could you please help me i have very important things on the pc that i need.

Grab "stinger"... (NOT the epo version)

...it's a useful little utility that Network Associates put together that does a clean of a number of the nastiest worms and virii out there..

On your friends PC reformat a floppy disk as a system book disk..
(ie: right click on drive a: choose format and tick the "Create an MS-DOS startup disk")

Then copy the stinger.exe file to the floppy...


Next take the floppy to your machine, put it in your floppy drive and boot up (check that your floppy drive will be checked for a boot disk in your system BIOS).

You should then eventually get a DOS prompt... type in stinger.exe /GO and this will then start the stinger process to scan your hard drive.

With a little luck this will kill off the worst offenders that are killing access to your machine. If not the only option is to reformat, rescan your hard drive for any boot sector virii and then reinstall everything with full security software and every patch you can find.

Have you tried starting in safe mode (Press f8 when you boot up)?

You're welcome Dan...

Just remember you'll still need to go through the full gammet of virus detection, updates and spy ware scans even when you do manage to regain some semblance of access to your machine... Oh and don't forget copious visits to the windows update site to get all the critical patches..

I recently had to do this for a WinMe machine.. Took 7 hours of gnashing teeth but it's well worth it in the end...
