Within the Sheffield area only the following transmit digital tv
Sheffield Crosspool,Emley Moor and Belmont. If you are on one of the smaller infill relay transmitters then at present the answer is no.
If you can get channel 5 then you should be able to receive freeview services.

I'm in sheffield 6,can't get channel 5, i can but it's unwatchable(it's unwatchable at the best of times) BUT i can get all the digital channels fine, including channel 5.

I am in Huters Bar and get freeview without a problem.

I am still using an old ondigital box.

However, I do know some people in S11 around Nether Green who can't get any signal.

If in doubt, buy from Argos, test it at home, take it back and then buy cheaper from Richer Sounds in broomhill :)

Good Luck

We're the same, we live right up at the top of Stannington almost and can't get Channel 5 except through Sky, not that we watch it much apart from Mum watching House Doctor.

We live up at the top of Greystones and get freeview.
Had to get an aerial upgrade costing £90 though!

Just found my guide book to Tv reception in Uk
The Sheffield Crosspool site Transmits as follows uhf 21 = c4 uhf 24 = itv 1 yorks uhf 27 = bbc 2 uhf 31 = bbc1 uhf 67 = c5 ( much lower power than the main 4 channels so a much lower coverage area)
The digital services are allocated as follows uhf 39 = mux1 uhf 53 = mux 2 uhf57 = mux A uhf 60 = mux B uhf 45 = mux c uhf 42 = mux D . These digital services are transmitted at .05kW where as the analogue services are transmitted at 5kW with C5 at 2.5kW
The other rule of thumb guide to see which signal you are receiving is which edition of Calendar and Look North do you get.
Crosspool = Calendar South/Look North (Yorks) Emley Moor = Calendar North/Look North (Yorks) and Belmont = Calandar East/ Look North (Lincs/E Yorks)

It is currently planned to start phasing out the analogue services from 2007 this will then allow the broadcasters to increase the signal on the digital services as at present the UHF system is full due to sharing analogue and digital channels

I am not that far from Greystones road, can t see the point of getting an aerial upgrade for £90.00 when I am trying to get extra channels on the cheap.

As far as I know, everyone will need this sort of aerial anyway in 2007 when analogue phases out.

Your other option, I have heard that sky are to introduce a package whereby for £100 one off payment, you will be able to get 300 free channels.

If it helps, we live just behind, and two yards lower, than the Highcliffe Hotel.

You can go on the freeview website, put in you post code and it should be able to tell you if you can get ok or if you need some kind of a booster

Thats what I did. It said we could get freeview but we MAY need an aerial upgrade, which we did.
