They're the lowest common denominator in TV programming. Theres the odd good one but generally they're absolute rubbish and its another good reason for me never buying a TV.

I used to like Big Brother at the beginning, before it turned into complete car crash TV full of people I couldn't bear to spend 2 minutes with.

What I want to know is... what did Z list celebrities do before they had the opportunity to sell their souls for an extra 15 minutes of fame? And why is it entertaining to watch vaguely famous people doing unremarkable things?

It seems like when a so-called celebrity's career is on the wane or they've been out of the papers for one reason or another, they now jump onto the reality TV circuit. Which in itself is now a second career for former stars. And we all know they are paid large sums of money to appear on these programmes.

And that's just talking about the celebrity element as well. If you combine it with the non-celebrity reality TV shows, we have overkill I think.

As everyone has said too many. They're cheap to make and they make stars out of nobodies. Then again that last part is down to the media and a largely stupid general public. Jade Goody being the perfect example of a pointless human being being turned into a celeb by the media.

I never watch them, and as a result, I don't watch much television because it is saturated with reality tv and soaps. I hate both. I only mind when it's on BBC as it's the only channel I pay for. I can't complain about channel 4 showing them, it's free. However, I can say that I am dissapointed in Channel 4's recent decline and lack of independent, thoughtful, alternative or original programming.

Reality T.V. shows will stay with us as long as the gullible British viewers continue to phone in and subsidise the cost of putting the show on the air.
The same people that regularly buy the gossip celeb mags just so they can see what "Posh" is wearing this week. The same people who buy a fitness video just because some d list celeb says its good. The producers must be laughing up their sleeves at how stupid we all are, we don't just watch the shows, we pay for them to be there for us to watch. :loopy:

With the sheer number of these vacuous programs on TV I think someone out there has a good chance of suing the TV stations for potentially inflicting brain damage. Or at the very least falsely advertising it as 'entertainment'.

Quite agree. Unfortunately, one member of our household insists on watching Big Brother which saddens me because she laughs out loud at it. I just cannot see what there is to laugh at, its absolutely pathetic. So, I just shutup and do the washing up instead which I find pleasant compared to having to watch that garbage.

I stop caring long before that. It was the very first episode when Zoe Ball entered and said "good evening and welcome to a new series......". I just greated her with indifference and it went down hill from there.

I am tired of relality shows too, there's another one coming. The footballers wifes go head to head in a battle to see who can run the best boutique, can't wait :rolleyes:
