is everyone ready for even more upheaval on the buse's ?

not only have "First" put up there bus fares again for the 1st time this year, they are now to impliment sweeping changes to routes and services. which will include service withdrawls, route changes, bus frequencies, etc etc etc. this will not only confuse the paying public but from what i've seen & heard the drivers themselves too. :gag:

some are having to learn upto 8 & 9 new routes on top of the ones they do already, in some cases drivers will be expected to know 20 + routes. :loopy:

surely this can only lead to delays & hold-ups as drivers new to routes take wrong turns or even get lost altogether, constantly having to look up fare prices will also increase the delays & frustration for passengers and drivers alike.

deregulation of public transport has been a total disaster for those relient upon it,its time to give it back to the council, but could the council afford the buy-out? :suspect:

have also noted that "First" appear to have sold out,at least, in part to "Stagecoach",
"First" will no longer be running late evening bus'es monday to Saturday and NO buses at all on a sunday to the Stocksbridge area
these will now be run by "Stagecoach", who it appears will not be running a service from the city centre to stocksbridge as "First" do now. those who live out at oughtibridge, deepcar & stocksbridge are to catch the supertram to middlewood and then get a shuttle bus to those areas :gag:

so who in fact do they pay their fare to? are they expected to pay twice ? are the people of stocksbridge second class citizens ,not deserving of a proper bus service, such as it is ?

If you think First are taking the mickey here you should read what they're doing with their train commuters down south...

To be honest I can see nothing short of a bloody revolution that will restore any sense of 'customer service' to the public transport industry.

The only other solution would to force MPs to use public transport for all their travel. If they found they were missing critical votes in the House cos their bus didn't turn up they might be moved to do something about the situation.

Re: Stocksbridge

The evening and Sunday journeys are not run on a commercial basis as they do not carry enough passengers to make a profit, so SYPTE subsidise those journeys and are run on a tendered basis. The contract for those journeys has just come up and Stagecoach offered to run them cheaper, saving taxpayers money, so they have won the contract.

The Stagecoach 57/58 will run from Sheffield Interchange to Stocksbrige as it does now, the new timetable can be downloaded from both the Stagecoach and Travelsouthyorkshire websites.

Travelmaster tickets can be purchased from SYPTE that are valid on both First and Stagecoach services.
