View Full Version : American knitting magazine subscriptions - best deals?
I've seen the very good deals you can get when you subscribe direct with the publisher of Interweave Knits. However, I'm a little put off by several stories I've heard and read of about very long and/or non-existent delivery from the US.
Does anyone subscribe to Interweave Knits and Vogue Knitting with a UK shop/distributor? Has anyone had a bargain deal?
This (http://www.twistfibrecraft.co.uk/books/magazines/mags.html) is a good place to get a sub from
Thanks. That's much cheaper than buying them individually, which is what I've been doing since my last subscription to IK elapsed, especially as P&P is included.
The last issue of IK was £5.75 from Borders. It's hit and miss whether they're in stock though, and I haven't seen 'Vogue Knitting' in there for ages.
Avoid a sub with Vogue Knitting directly at all costs!
Subs are available from here too. Can't say how reliable they are though.

(IK directed me to them as a UK distributor)

For many years I had a quilting magazine direct from the publisher and it was a long process trying to get them to put the address on it correctly, something including Sheffield would have been nice. The renewal was a saga too but other than that it arrived on time every month for five years (except for around Christmas). I recently had a year's direct subscription to Spin Off and the first issue took 16 weeks to arrive. I chased it three times and customer service was less than satisfactory. I was so disgruntled that I let the subscription lapse.
It is very much easier to pick up the phone and get things sorted when you're in the same time zone.

I know several people who subscribe through them and they've never had any problems.

I get Interweave Knits, InKnitters and Knitters from P&M Woolcraft. They've never let me down and even send an sae when your subscription is about to run out so you can renew it. I think you can probably order online too, now. I get Vogue from GMC publications and got 2 years at a pretty good price (£29.95 inc p&p) and don't have any problems.
I did have a bit of a hiccup when InKnitters did a feature on real fur yarn (gross!) and nearly cancelled my subscription. Maybe our US cousins aren't quite as fussed about the issues around real fur but I thought it was horrible. Must send a note of complaint but haven't got round to it. InKnitters isn't my fave of the magazines anyway, it's a bit traditional for my taste and the photos are a bit uninspiring. Vogue is fab and so are IK and Knitters. I think P&M will send a single copy for you to try before you subscribe.

I'm going to put my hand up and say that hadn't come across 'InKnitters' or 'Knitters' before. I've just spotted them on the P&M Woolcraft web site though and I'll check them out.
Real fur yarn? I must investigate this too... :suspect:
I've just realised that I have seen Knitter's Magazine before; they sell it at my local Borders and I recognised it from the cover of the latest issue featured on the magazine's web site.
Is it just me, or has the editor fallen through a worm hole to the early 90s? There must be some legitimate reason for the existence of that cover photo (http://www.knittinguniverse.com/xrx/universe.php) and text...
Forgot to mention that I've just added links to both 'Knitter's Magazine' and 'INKnitters' to the recommended links section.
Knitter's has always had a bit of a, erm, special style
Knitter's Magazine does look a little on the traditional side, doesn't it?
I found the idea of a magazine called 'Crochet Fantasy' (as featured on the INKnitters site) rather special too...
Having said that, 'INKnitters' sounded like a rather dubious title too, until I realised what it meant.
