View Full Version : How to get to manor house?
ceridwen1977 24-09-2004, 11:20 Help!
I want to visit the old manor house / turret house on Sunday - the one where Mary Queen of Scots stayed - but looking at the bus timetables I have no clue if any buses go along that way!
Does anybody know? I think the house is on manor lane
Thank you!
i can see manor castle form my living room window..yes it is on manor lane....as all the buses have just changed numbers i can't tell you which number to catch.....get any bus that goes up city road and get off at manor lodge school and walk up manor lane.
The 93 bus, to Woodhouse, from Pond Street, goes very close.

I wouldn't advise walking around, it's a bit rough in that area.

officegirl 24-09-2004, 11:45 you can get the 95 or 41 from outside tj huges think they are every half hour on sundays and every 15mins on week days
i know they do tours round the site showing you how things were laid out in ye olde days
their main switch board number is 01142789999 for more info
Number 8 goes past the gate I think, and M29 looks like it passes close.
Otherwise get bus or tram up City road and walk from there.
Plain Talker 24-09-2004, 12:07 the number 22 bus, (First-mainline) which runs from Nether Edge, through Wybourn is probably your best bet. (it used to run to southey green, but here was a re-routing/ renumber recently)
Ask to be dropped off near the Windsor Pub, and it's just a couple of hundred yards further on.
Much nearer than the number 93, that'd be a baout a 10 minute walk (in fact, with the huge route- renumbering thing last month, I dont think it's the 93 anymore, anyway)

the 93 is no more mate..its now number 14
The easiest way is to catch the 95 and get off outside the church (Next to manor school), then just walk up Manor lane. It is only a 5 min walk and the 95 runs more often than most buses in that area. DO NOT try catching a tram, it will leave you miles away!
ceridwen1977 27-09-2004, 15:21 Thank you for all your help about public transport - I made it to the Manor House for the open day - it was very interesting and I recommend it to anybody. Even my sister, who does not like history or old buildings, enjoyed it a bit even if it was only because they were selling very yummy chocolate cake in the tea room
