Not sure what the winds are like in Sheffield tonight but we've got wheelie bins taking off in the street thats how bad it is here. Next doors dog is stuck outside and it is beyond freezing and the rain is just pouring down. The poor thing didn't ask to be housed with such idiots as owners, wish i could carry him over and leave him to sleep in my kitchen :( its not fair, on another note, my friends had enough and is going to report them, after tonight i'm not surprised, if she doesn't report them i'm going to go round, express my opinion and tell them to put him inside or i will report them. He's only a baby :( i could honestly cry for him.

Rant over lol!

My neighbours dog is left out in all weathers, all year round (even on bonfire night):loopy: . He's an old dog and just lives on the patio, walking through his wee and poo (as he never gets taken for a walk). I have reported this to the RSPCA 3 times before Christmas, but they don't appear to be interested. I reported it a 4th time this week, when I heard him yelp in the early hours of the morning, as it sounded to me like he had received a drunken kick, but I still don't think the RSPCA have been out. What else can you do?

Would you be allowed to take pictures of the conditions the dog is being kept in and send them to the rspca so they can see how bad things are. Poor thing :(

I heard somewhere that the RSPCA will only come out to investigate someone after a certain number of complaints (think its 3 or 4) so keep calling and they might take some notice!
Or get OH / a neighbour to complain too - if they have complaints from different people they would have to take it seriously.

i dont think the idea is loopy .i think its loopy that they wont come out .but if you get a dog off them they tell you that if its going to be ouside for any long period of time they need shelter from wind rain and sun .

these type of things really upst me especially when the rspca do nothing. then their is my sister who has a gorgeous golden lab who she absolutley addores but the next door neighbour does not. the next door neighbour complained to the rspca that my sisters dog is living in squallor & they were round within the hour. my sister invited them in & they could see nothing was wrong. my sister asked if it was the next door neighbours doing & the guy said yes. that she also complains that her dog barks all day, which she does not as my sister works evenings & is in during the day. she only barks when someone comes to the door like most dogs do, but this is the best bit, the rspca guy told my sister that they had had complaints that her dog had been left for x amount of days over christmas with no on caring for her. i had to laugh soo hard at this one because the whole of our family went away to scotland for christmas as we do ever other year & i took the dog up in my car. we had plenty of photos to prove where the dog was & my sister had to explain that the neighbour that for some reason she has heald a grudge against her since the day she moved in & has been finding various ways to get her in to trouble.

then there are cases like this where animals really do need the rspca's help & they do absolutley nothing. if it were me i would phone them every night & complain & stress that you will carry on phoning untill they send someone out.

I have no idea why these 'people' have dogs. Why have one to treat it badly & leave it outside. It really infuriates me !!!!

There is a large dog close to where I live that is out in all weathers, but I think he goes in at night about 9pm or so. He is often whining/howling outside and it upsets me to hear him. I doubt if anything would be done though as he has a kennel - he just doesnt go in it!

I did wonder if that was the case. I'll phone again to see if anything happens.

Hello again,

Well i went to bed just after i'd posted and i was woken up 3 times between then and 6.30am with the dog next door barking and howling, i went to my back window to talk to him but that just made him worse :( Regarding shelter he does have a kennel, although it doesn't have a front so i could imagine it being seriously draughty. KITTENTA - my friend has said she will take photo's as proof if she has too, we're more worried that if the RSPCA do come out that they'll just deny it. It too infuriates me why people buy dogs and then leave them outside, they can't even be classed as pets because no-one bothers with them. The only thing i can think of is its like a status symbol, he's a massive dog (german shepherd cross akita) he's 8 months old and already 5ft tall on his back legs (bearing in mind all thats stopping him getting over to my garden is a small rickety fence, about 3ft tall but thats another topic lol!)

I have decided if its as bad tonight i will go round and wake them up and just explain that it isn't fair on the dog and he's waking my whole house up because he's so cold. How can anyone be be so cold-hearted and shut off to the noise he was making last night? I couldn't do it to my dog, even when he annoys the hell out of me, i have being known to sleep downstairs with him when he's been poorly :(

Fingers crossed RSPCA do do something.

I'd be tempted to shove them out in the garden in the pouring rain, see how they like it

a few years ago a neighbours dog was kept in similar conditions to the ones described, except it was stuck on a lead tied to the shed door (which was always open. the lead was maybe a metre long - a leather one, not an extension one' and that gave it just enough room to lean on the wall overlookin our garden.

me and my mum complained to the rspca (anonymously, as we knew the owner), they came round. the neighbour then spoke to us, sayin how shocked she was that someone complained! she seriously thought the dog was spoilt!

anyway, the rspca tld her that the dog should be on a longer lead, so that it didnt have to poo in the shed. the neighbour also lied and said the dog slept indoors every night - yeh right!

im not saying its the rspcas fault, they only had our word against theirs, and cos the dog was friendly, they didnt think any harm was occurring.

so me and my mum offered to walk the dog - neighbours never ever walked her! and look after her when we could - difficult with spoilt cats in the house. the difference in the dog was amazing! her cot gleamed more, she was less scabby! we also used to feed her more.

the saddest thing was that the dog got pregnant - some stray must have got to her i guess, and even when she had the babies she was still in the shed :loopy: so we took them all in (again), and found homes.

these neighbours were samaritans, spent all their time helping humans, yet honestly couldnt see that the way they were treating their dog was wrong!

so my point is, try talkin to the neighbours and seein if you can 'educate' them. if not, just look after the dog yourself and maybe try find it a new home? harsh i know, but at least the dog will be ok then|!

This is disgusting  these people want bannig from having animals

I have heard about a little 1yr old doggie that is living with an alcoholic and is being neglected/abused/dragged round by his ears, it kills me to hear this. I've aksed the person in question to phone RSPCA but as we all know they arn't going to do anything, they want evidence etc etc and this takes time and often there is little of both time and evidence. I dont see why seeing the dog the dog in its current situation is enough to take it away:huh:
So this guy is going to go round and take it off him, ok, yes its classed at theft but he cant stand back anymore....:(
what else can you do?

Can you not let your fencing blow over and let the dog in?!

I know someone who works for the RSPCA, apparently this region is one of the most understaffed in the country and regularly struggle to prioritise workloads as some calls that come in as urgent are not and vice versa. The law is crap it does not allow them to just take a dog they have to advise first, then go back and check again and if then nothing is done they can take action. But if one inspector has 50 calls per day, on top of trying to go back and check previous calls things just dont get done. I heard that some weekends one inspector may cover the whole of south yorkshire, as well as sometimes west yorkshire and up as far as Leeds. Imagine having a dying dog in Leeds and a dying dog in Sheffield and a serious abuse case in Bradford all at once. How are they meant to proritise!. They get some stick but HQ need to spend some pennies on more staff so the animals get help asap. It is a poor do - it needs sorting. The new animal welfare bill will give them more power to act on a situation instead of giving the owner a squillion chances first. Also I heard Sheffield RSPCA is finally starting to be rebuilt, we really need this so there are more spaces for animals to be given care.
