I want to take out a friend who happens to be a lady to a nice simple english restaurant.
I don't know the area that well so suggestions like a nice fish and chip restaurant would be nice.
Must be clean and have nice food but don't need a romantic place as we are just friends and no more.
Suggestions welcome
The place that springs to mind is Seasons on Abbeydale Rd, they do nice english food, not a particularly romantic place, just good, simple, non-expensive food.

people at work have commented that bowshaw inn is supposed to be nice for traditional meals...sorry cant recommend them myself as never been.

I'm hoping to do a little better than that. Just a simple but nice place for a couple of friends to meet up and enjoy a meal.
I'm not that fussed about pubs as I don't drink that much and I'll be driving anyway so no booze for me.
The lady does not like foreign foods so it's traditional english time.
I recommend the Wig & Pen on Campo Lane. Also the peak district has some lovely places to eat.

Waggon and Horses - Abbeydale Road South is Pub Restaurant, but food end is nice, and no smoking too (if you prefer that when you eat) - food simple and nice.
