oh and Nettos have got seeds in at .19p a packet !! bargain - flowers and veg.

Know lots of people who bought them last year (were DTs last year, country something this year) and they had great success.

Oo, thanks for that - I'll definitely grab a set of seed potatoes when I'm next in town. I had great success growing Charlottes last year - we got a bumper crop and they tasted fab.

I'm intrigued by the shallots too - how many do you get in a pack?

I think there's about 20, some smaller than others, in fact some of these are huge (they're more like mini onions than shallots)

Great, thanks - I was curious as we don't have an especially huge veggie garden and I didn't want to have loads of half packets of seeds and sets left over! (although of course that won't be the case if the SF Gardening and Allotment Group Seed and Plant Swap goes ahead :))

I was in Wilkos yesterday and noticed they have a nice line of traditional style tools in (spade / fork / hoes / hand trowels / forks etc). The Hoe was only £6.99 - looked very nicely made. A bargain I think I will be picking up tomorrow :)

Ive had quite a few tools from there including a hoe, but it was cheaper than that! I have a rake, lawn edger, shears and seceteurs (sp?) all Wilkinsons and great value. I got a load of their seed trays a couple of years ago when they sold them half price. They are brilliant value and when they reduce them at the end of the season, even better!

Oh I love wilkinsons, you cant beat it- altogether now

"Wilkinson, low low prices everytime"

I got some of the shallots, I also have my eye on the globe artichokes, 2 pound for three- anyone know of any better/ cheaper?

I wouldnt recommend the asparagus though i got some last two years and had none grow at all!

In town they had lots of small packs of different types taters, as well as big nets of some.

Craig - I've got some globe artichoke seeds if you would like some. I sowed 6 plants last March, they eventually took off and the plants are looking quite healthy now. Hoping to get lots of lovely heads this year.

the globe artihkes in wilko are roots with shoots just coming- is it quicker to establish them this way or are seeds just as good? I'd be interesed to know. May take you up on the offer of a few seeds though.

you'll definitely get a crop quicker with the young plants from Wilkos.

I've been warned that they can turn into monsters, so don't go overboard with them and think about where you'll put them as they'll need to be in a permanent bed..

Lemon tree from Wilkos?

Is that difficult to keep? A greenhouse job?

I have herd that globe artichokes grown from seed can be a bit hit or miss and not always true to type. Don't quote me on that tho as I have never grown them myself, would love to as it's one of those things that you just can't buy but I don't have the room in my garden.

I am indeed lucky to have a big garden

R-lass wants it landscaping & that though so my veggie patches days are numbered.

I now have access to an unused unloved allotment that needs a fair bit of work doing on it. In the meantime, The soft fruit bushes will go in the garden where one would normally put ornamental shrubs :D 'compromise'....

I got a wonderfull plum tree for Christmas from Mr n Mrs Viking; however I'm still debating wether to plant it in the garden or at the allotment  :help:

The spuds & shallots will probably go in at the allotment as I have a clear area now to start. It all needs fencing off though - I've already had a compost bin nicked

Still - should keep me fit :hihi:

edited to add: Yes I have a greenhouse - alas it's still in it's packaging in the garage cos I is a lazy bloke :hihi:

Thanks. Gonna give it a go. Will need to drink a few G & Ts to use the lemons up so I can get the pips out!
