I've just had this posted from a Barnsley fan

I've just seen this posted on the BarnsleyFC.net bulletin board, sounds like you've taken on a right star.

Don't post that often but could not keep this from you all. Seeing as it is looking certain they will get Sturrock, even Sky tonight are saying done deal.
My best mate lives in Southampton, he has been there 30 years now, and knows a lot of folk attached to the club. The whole family are ST holders and one of his best mates down there, who I know well too, is a major sponsor, and regularly in the directors box. So to cut a long story short,a week or so ago I asked him why Sturrock got the boot so quickly. He emailed me with this
earlier this week.
Having said this now they will probably be promoted by March, but you never know!

About the Sturrock stories.Unfortunately these have been validated.

You probably noticed that he was a bit portly. At training he had a park bench on the side of the pitch that he lay on whilst training was ongoing.
He only got off this if the cameras were there. He also wasn't there much as his family didn't want to move so he spent a lot of time in Plymouth.

One of his big things at training was that if a drill broke down the
offending player ( usually an international from some country or another) was asked to run around the pitch as punishment, He didn't seem to understand that while this was happening all the other players had to wait about whilst the lap was run.

Things started to come to a head when firstly Mido from Marseille came to look around with the possibility of a move. This was before Drogma move to Chelsea which scuppered any move. He was very impressed with the set up etc and asked to meet the manager. Sturrock arrived in jeans, flip flops , white tea shirt covered in coffee stains and unshaven. Mido run a mile!!.Rupert
Lowe had to formally caution him on his appearance. He ignored the warning.

Soon after this , Fitz Hall asked for a move to Crystal Palace , to rejoin Dowie, on the basis that he was learning nothing from Sturrock. Remember this was one of the bright young things in the Premiership. Coupled to this the Beattie move to Villa was triggered by Beattie wanting to get away from Sturrock as he was the one normally lapping the pitch. He actually didn't want to leave Southampton.

At the same time Sturrock brought in his pal from Plymouth and demoted Dennis Roffe from 1st team coach to the reserves. Dennis is highly rated by the players not a good idea.

It all came to a head when during the Blackburn game Beattie, as captain, re-organised the team during the game when it was not going well. Sturrock got up from the bench to shout what was going on and Beattie shouted back ' Sod off fatso'. Also a number of the other senior players refused to come out after half time unless the Beattie formation was retained.

All in all a bit of a mess . He was just out of his depth but also remember somebody had to appoint him. Thanks Rupert.

Now you know.
