Are there any comedy clubs in Sheffield? Been here a month now, got four months to go, and am desperate for something fun to do. I know there are some Sheffield comedians, as I've seen Roger Monkhouse and Toby Foster at The Comedy Store in London, but do they play locally?

Thanks

I'm not aware of any dedicated comedy clubs here, though I bet someone proves me wrong and says there's loads! University nights don't seem to be short of comedians, though I think you sometimes need to be in student company to get in.

There are two main comedy clubs in Sheffield.

One is at Hillsboro' and the other at Bramall Lane.

Both overpriced nowadays, but if you go with the right attitude, there's still lots of laughs there.

There's the weekend shows at the Roundhouse - four comedians every week, plus a late bar until 1am, and food if you wish to order as well. Tickets cost £15, and are available from Forever Changes record shop on Hickmott Street, Hunters Bar, or Jacks Records on Division Street. They're also available from Ponds Forge reception or you can pay on the door on the night

The Abbeydale Picture House has something like ABcom once a month. Its cheap really and I think its part of the raising money to restore the building. The rather imposing building near the Pizza Hut.

Dizzyblonde, It's ABBCOM last thursday of the month at bar abbey, nothing to do with the charity other than whatever the bar makes. Only £2 entry, some great up and coming acts, soon to have headliners.

another vote for the last laugh in the lescar!

Been to it 3 or 4 times now, always have good comedians. Nice intimate enviroment as well. If you're near the front you WILL GET PICKED ON! (but that's half the fun)

is there not a new comedy club venue now in Sheffield?

There is a new comedy night at The Library Theatre (in the central library) that runs once a month - the jester society. Showcases acts often featured on popular comedy shows 'mock the week', '8 out of 10 cats', 'nevermind the buzzcocks', 'live at the apollo', 'michael mcintyre's comedy road show', 'edinburgh and beyond' and stuff like that.

Has been running since September and has already had on: Trevor Lock, Greg Davies, Paul Foot, Gareth Richards, Pete Firman, Paul Tonkinson and John Archer.

Acts coming up at the Jester Society: Dan Atkinson, Lucy Porter, Tom Deacon, Steve Hall (We Are Klang), Pappy's fun club, Tim Fitzhigham, Jason Cook, Norman Lovett and a fair few more.

Next show is on November 19th

Tickets are just £10 (£8 for students)
Email: TheJesterSociety@googlemail.com for tickets.
