anybody remember xmas day night around the eraly/mid seventies cueing up outside the doors at the radical "RADS" social club to watch the DISCOS formerley the 4 mimes.they were a take off act that had a tape of bits of songs which they had mixed up and would imitate the singers like bridget the midget and alvin stardust,we would have to cue up before 6.30pm when the doors opened to get a seat.our parents and aunties uncles etc would take up a nest of tables each with a big siver foil parcel int he middle of the table full of turkey sandwhiches and pickles.THEM WERE THE DAYS !!!!!
would get so bored waitin and would go and play hide and seek outside with the other kids or try to see the older kids snogging in the outside cellars.just popping abck in to see if it had started or to see if the cockle man was going round with his basket.
then dancing with your mum or nana in the isles and if i managed to stay awake long enough search round the backs of the chairs to see if there was any loose change or bits and pieces.
remember having to put my smart trousers (flares)and shirt on when i really wanted to stay in and watch the six million dollar man film.
GRETA DAYS THEY WERE..:hihi: ..ANYBODY ELSE THERE ?????

Used to go in the Rads in the 60s and 70s, not only New Year. It was a good club and had some good turns on. We used to dance in front of the stage. Its a pity there aren't many working mens clubs left.

Yes I was probably there - I was practically brought up in the Rads. We went in every Fri/Sat/Sun nights and Sunday dinner! Had some great times in there and remember lots of people who went in - not only the kids! What years roughly are you talking? I went in all through the 70's and early 80's til it closed. Spent many an hour hanging about outside or in the corridor and bottom lounge to get away from the bingo!!

Me too! Tuesdays/Wednesdays if I remember correctly.

Just off Staniforth rd. think it was called roundal street.
I remember the rads! My memories were the early 80s - had a good time in there with my parents and grandparents! Its such a shame how things disappear like they do but hey at least we have the memories!
