Before I start, I don't dress my dog up in little booties and jumpers and bonnets.... well, I did once put a woolly hat on Elsa, but only for a laugh... and she wasn't at all impressed :D

But, I do have a kagoul for Gypsy which is fantastic, but on its last legs, so am looking for a replacement. Can anyone recommend one? I'm looking for one that has a section that protects her chest and belly as she flicks grit and dirty water up as she walks.

The one she has now is opaque with a coloured trim. Ideally I'd like to get one exactly the same, but I really don't think they make them anymore. It's very handy as it folds up really small. And it wasn't that expensive. I don't need something that's padded or fleece-lined. Just waterproof. Around 20 inches long.

Most of the time, a wet muddy dog doesn't worry me, but when all we've done is walk up to my mum's house (where she stays when I'm at work), she's better received when she isn't soaking wet!

Also, as we walk home at 10pm, it's nice if she isn't soaking wet for bedtime, too.

I got my two a realy nice one fron Pets at Home,
they are made of the stuff Barber coats are made from,

They keep them lovely and dry, and they wrap under their tummies nicely,
They not too padded either, just keeps them dry, they fasten with velcro,
around the collar and the bit under the tummy,
my two are cavaliers but they had all sizes,

The Barbour one sounds like the one we had for our Skye Terrier years ago. It was made by Gannex who used to make macs, and the material was fabric which was sort of rubberised. I got it from Maces in Castle Market, but I expect they arent there any more.

That sounds good. I've looked in Pets at Home before, but not recently. Is the chest/tummy bit a seperate panel, or does the whole thing just meet under the tummy?

I bought her a kagoul in there, but it's too small, really, even though it was "large"! It was dead cute, though. Had a little hood and arms. That's not why I bought it however, and even she looked a bit embarrassed when i put it on her, so not sure i could go out in public with her wearing it!

She's quite deep chested, barrel rib-caged. But slim on her waist. I've just bought her a mac that she steps into and that zips up her back, but that's too tight around her chest and huge on her waist.

If only I could sew!!

I've seen a yellow raincoat on bestfriendspetboutique.co.uk. They also sell a doggy salsa dress  ... I think I'll give that one a miss :D

Do they do them for a GSD size? My aunt has a long haired GSD and really doesn't want her to overheat in a coat but the dog always ends up soaked through.

It'd be great if I could find one for her.

I've just spent the evening searching the web again, and have finally found EXACTLY what I was looking for. There's an EBay shop that sells them. Space Angels Pet Supplies. The largest is 55cm, though. Doubt that will be big enough!

The yellow raincoat on bestfriendspetboutique.co.uk goes up to 25" - 30", though, which is around 60 - 75cm, I think.

It is very yellow, though :D

hehe glad you found what you were looking for...

I will continue in my search for a suitable coat for the GSD... I did see the one on best friends pet boutique.

I often wonder how a dog feels wearing this out door attire. A dogs coat can withstand a good down pour and wont harm the dog in anyway......may even do it some good because, when you get home and give the dog a good rub down with a towel then brushed down ,youre encouraging natural oils in the dogs fur that looks after them when they are out in the rain etc... i would imagine many a dog will overheat even during a particularly cold spell esp if theyre running around..I understand about going to someone elses home wet and sludged up, so why not take his/her own towel and brush to allow the person who you are visiting, to give the dog the nice bonding process that can be acheived by doing this .my idea is let the dog go out in his own coat...far more fun for him/her !!:)

The trouble is, my aunt's dog is old and long haired, my aunt works and doesn't get much help from her family so doesn't have too much time to be brushing her down and towelling her after walks.

The dog doesn't run around much due to her age and is usually on a lead. It makes life awkward when she gets the house wet through on her return

I know what you mean though, Takara only wore a coat when she got a cold as a young pup and Eddy wore one when his legs were stiff and the weather was cold, until of course, Takara pulled it off him in the park  other than that, I let them wear their own coats.:)

We go to my mum's 4 days a week and then i rush off almost immediately to go to work. No time to be a good dog owner and dry her off!

At the weekend, we don't mind getting wet. We spend 3 days being wet and muddy at the moment :D

Theres some barbour coats on ebay, the largest fits dogs 32", from collar to base of tail.
If you put dogs waxed coat in the ebay search bit, they will come up, and they are much cheaper than pets at home.

If you've got a coat that fits really well already, how about posting in the craft or knitting group to see if somebody can do you a copy using yours as a pattern?
