Hi people,
Ive down loaded a file which isnt what it says it is. Now when I come to delte it, it wont. what can I do?
Is the file in use - being run or held open by another program?

No its not in use, I was told to rename it and try deleting but that still wont work
If it is in use try re-starting the pc and then deleting it.

Did the renaming work?
Try a live Linux CD?
Check to see if the file is write-protected.And also check to see if you have admin rights.

If the rights are OK on teh file, check to see whether it shows up in running processes in Task Manager - it is sounding awfully like it's executing.

Ive sorted it, I did a google and found someone who had the same trouble, I had to open the file in the program I got it from and delte it through there
it is sounding awfully like it's executing.
I'd be inclined to agree.
The only time I've not been able to access rename/delete/edit and save a file, is when either the file itself is running, or another file has an open thread to it:thumbsup:

in any similar situation there is a handy little program called unlocker (http://www.download.com/Unlocker/3000-2248_4-10525153.html?tag=lst-0-1)
you tend to find non windows executables are difficult to delete as windows see it as an executable file then opens it to look for icons and fails to unlock it when it doesn't find a file descriptor block with icons in it, consequently the file can't be deleted as long as windows is running, even in safe mode
the unlocker boobafet suggested is the only way to shift them
