My Favs would have to be...

It has to be Ron Grainger's 1963 score in the BBC Radiophonic Workshop of the original Dr who theme music.

A groundbreaking piece of electronica still recognised today as being a pioneering piece of music.

Alltogether now "woooooooo , oooooooooooooooo"

Cos Eastenders is crap.

Can anyone remember though, the song Anita Dobson had in the charts called "anyone can fall in love" sung to the tune of the Eastenders theme?

I have an MP3 of it, it's quite a decent song, heard it on Top of the Pops 2 ages ago and downloaded it.

On topic though, my picks would have to be...

Knightmare
Old style Neighbours theme
The Bill
All the Star Treks inc Enterprise
Dallas
Dynasty
Crossroads (old ones not the pants remake)

Yeah that did rule, as far as I remember it was sort of a pre-cursor to The Bill wasn't it?

Similar kind of thing anyway, drama thingy about Police.

Lestat
25-09-2004, 22:05
It was very much like the bill, a police drama in which the main character was a woman. I was only young when it used to come on and always thought Juliet Bravo was her name!

Only really used to watch the beginning and the end though for the music.

The Buffy The Vampire Slayer theme is one of my favourites.

But the best one of all is for the American show 'Do-Over'. Not only is it a great track, but I met the girl who sings it one dark night in Cambridge;)

What about Crown Court [1973-1984]? Very ominous theme, that one. Also springing to mind is Auf Wiedersehen Pet theme from third series set partly in USA. I agree with Ant here regarding the old, black and white Robinson Crusoe theme. If I remember correctly, it was a German series with English sub-titles, regularly repeated in school holiday period during the early 70s. Marvellous, stirring stuff.

Possibly the GREATEST ever theme tune was during the 80's. It accompanied ITV's 'The Big Match' every weekend.
I think it was so popular that they used it for the world cup too - have a listen, how many memories does this bring back!!

I love the Gang show theme from It aint half hot mum. You could never get away with a line like "we are here to make you feel gay" in a modern song.

The theme from Hill street blues, and the one from Taxi were classics. As was the Benny hill Show's Yakkety Sax tune.

Professionals and sweeny. What great tunes they are. I have used the sweeny once in the end of a song I did with a band, it always raised a big cheer when it came on.

I have a very fond rememberence of the theme tune from painting with nancy, it had a constant violin note which sustained throughout the whole tune.

Crikey yeah that's one that worms it's way into your brain, and NEVER comes out.. lol
One of the kids played a funny little flute thing, was it called a nose flute? I could never understand why most of them had bikes to get around quickly, and there's one kid with a little skateboard ?? Why bother, he could never keep up with the others. Even though the scenes used to start with them arriving together. Bonkers!

And the film theme is slightly different again.

Pretty much agree with what you've already said. That is, Tales of the Unexpected, Black Beauty, Minder (which makes me think of the smell of KFC. I used to watch it in our friends' KFC shop in Firth Park) and Hill Street Blues.

What was the Ski Sunday music? I too like the jamaican music to Test Match Special, reminds me of of England getting battered by the likes of Viv Richards and Clive Lloyd!

What about Armchair Thriller, with the screaming bloody face sliding down the armchair. Eeeeeeeeck, that used to have me bricking it.

Cracking theme tune

You ever heard the *ahem* rude version of the FR theme song? :P

Down at Fraggle Rock
Grab a Fraggle by his cock...

Something like that anyway.. Sorry Mods I know we're not supposed to post "adult" material but it was just a joke.

Some of the ones I like that haven't been mentioned:

The Prisoner (another Ron Grainer effort, and a totally classic series - probably the best TV prog ever made IMO)

UFO (the Gerry Anderson series)

And I always used to find the theme tune to A Family at War particularly depressing when my parents used to watch it (I'm showing my age here, I know). Can't remember much about the actual programme though except there was an old bloke with a moustache called Sefton and I think by the end of virtually all his family had been wiped out in the war in one way or another. Cheerful it wasn't.
