I've installed Firefox but it is refusing to update it's own software or look for themes etc. Everything else works perfect, viewing web sites etc. I've checked their support forum and done a search but it came back with over 7000 post's!
I started nodding off after about 50 :)

I have exactly the same problem (I take it your using FF1.0PR?).

Might have to go back to using 0.93!

Damn shame as the actual engine is very fast.

I've not even tried using any other version!, is there a lot of difference?
I did find a useful link on the support page to download extensions and that works fine!.
As for the themes, i guess i'll have to do a google search.

There's an easy fix to that problem...

.... use Opera :P

Is'nt Opera an outdated application now that Firefox has been released?

Far from it. I used Opera exclusively, until I started to use my Gmail account a lot (it didn't support Opera), when I switched to Firefox for a couple of months. It's a nice browser, lots of neat touches. However, the latest Beta of Opera does work with Gmail so I've switched back.

I find Opera is a lot faster than Firefox (especially on my older 800Mhz machine at home), more stable, has far less screen clutter, better window management, and just generally seems to suit my browsing style better.

The one thing that Firefox beat Opera on was the amount of plugins and enhancements you could download. But most of the ones I used were to do things that Opera does anyway (tabbed windows etc)

They're both fillet mignon to Internet Explorer's post-club dogburger tho!

In what way is it not updating? is it giving an error message, or just saying 'no updates to download' ? It may be that you are just up to date. Although a number of extensions seem to need updating to work with 1.0, and it needs the author to update them before they will update. Also, I _think_ in 1.0 it will only download updates from update.mozilla.org (security precaution) so if you have older extensions from other sources, they won't update.

As for downloading themes, you need to visit this site (https://update.mozilla.org/themes/?application={ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384}) where you just have to click 'install' on the theme you want.

Basically, the error msg informs you that the server can not be found......

Cannot load Dialog

Error 623:The system could not find the phonebook entry for this

This error? If so I get it too.

Nope.

I get this:

Firefox encountered problems when trying to find updates for some items.

[Details]

Firefox could not check for updates to the following components (either the update server(s) did not respond or the update service(s) were not found).

Seems to me there are more bugs in this Public Release than in the 0.93 ver).

Nice one Fantomas!. I've installed Opera and it seems to be Quicker than Firefox, and a lot easier to use!
Thanks :)

Eeek!

That's strange, as when I was using 0.93 I had no issues at all??
