I went in there for the first time in about 18 months on Saturday. Great to see this pub back on it's feet. It was clean tidy, lots of friendly faces, great tunes and top quality ale on sale. Huzzah!

It was a shame how bad it got in there, the guy that had it before was shocking. I went in there once and he was with this "woman" who was so drunk she kept slumping on the bar. The he through everyone out at 10pm on a Wednesday because his baby was tired. ********ed more like.

Anyway, anyone else been in since it got took over??

so many differnet people in there though. It always was quite eclectic but it seems more embracing than ever now. When do you guys usually go in then??

I was in on sat for first time in ages for a friends birthday - seems there was lots of folk doing the same. It seems to be back on its feet again - its a shame what happened to the old landlord - but good to see things back on track...

(only slight moan - or am I just getting too old - the (very good) music was a bit too loud for pub!)

I was very pleased when I went in a few weeks back. I've kinda avoided the place of late and stuck to the dev cat if I was in that neck of the woods.

But a big thumbs up.....its ace now

I beg to differ on this ....

I was in there last week with my sister who had never seen the place before - assuring her that it was one of sheffields real character pubs - full of lively characters, its strong associations with Sheffields pop music heritage, interesting musical connection pictures on the walls, its quirky collection of radios, its old historic feel - what did I get ...

Another of one of Sheffields most famous pubs with links to Human League, Pulp, etc. has been "modernised" and made soul-less - I thought I was walking into an art gallery - walls full of one artists soul-less abstract work - interiors banal-ly painted - it has now gone from being a pub with unique character - to a faceless souless almost empty bar like any other new bar in the city centre - I guess it was inevitable really considering its proximity to West One etc. - bland flats full of bland people with a bland lifestyle and going to bland bars - ther you have it ... so this is "progress" ...

Right..who's up for a stinkin empty bar with no beer and a rude landlord?
Who wants dark dingy walls covered in 20 year old pictures of past it popstars? Who wants toilets that are a health hazard?
Who enjoys being served by miserable bar staff? Who likes their beer coming out of a rotting cellar? Who likes listening to loud cruddy 80's pap?

Patrick does......maybe his sister doesn't.

Not really any of my business, but maybe bar staff were not so friendly because they had lost their beloved wife to cancer and were having a bad time dealing will it. It seemed to go down hill after Lauras death.

Things can't always stay the same everything changes.

Whatever the reasons...and I agree its not your or any of our business to discuss matters so personal....

The pub has been saved...Lets enjoy it while we can....Any complaints to the management....

Well, it has indeed lost it's eccentric charm with all the old radios and stuff, that I will agree on.

However the place had gone quiet downhill and something did need doing.

The new owners I think have got it about right - it is now much more smart and stylish in terms of decor, however that is balanced by keeping the tradional layout with lots of different cosy corners and multiple rooms.

They also have acknowledges the musical roots and have quite a few different music based events advertised.

Just think of it like Doctor Who when he regenerates after a change of actor...

I think it's the best pub in town now, and i'll definitely be in tomorrow for the Richard Hawley dj'ing gig. 12pm until 3pm. A loads of free yorkshires. Yum!

This might sound a bit irrelevant but I think the lights in The Washington can be a bit glarey ? If they changed it to downlighting or something more subtle then I think it would improve immensley. More moody and friendly, warm.

Otherwise, I've always liked the Wash and it's eclectic atmosphere.

Does this win the prize for oldest thread (six years old!) resurrected?
