We are getting so bored of trudging around in the dark in the same park every night - we only go there cos it's got some streetlamps, but its getting very repetitive & boring!
Gadget won't fetch stuff, so the best walks we have are in big places (like Graves Park) where he has lots to explore. But obviously we only go there during the day.

In the evenings we go to the bit of park behind the Earl Pub off Queens Road (Nr J E James' cycles) and we are looking for somewhere new.

Where does everyone else on here go?

Is Endcliffe Park well lit at night? We were thinking of going there and then we could go to the Rising Sun afterwards ;)

If it's dark I'm too wussy to enter the park and we go for a road walk hehe

We tend to go out in the morning - if I take them before work, it's too dark so we go for a road walk, if mum takes them for me, she'll take them to the parks around our area.

Then I take Takara out around 2.30 for either a run through the park or we go and walk through town or somewhere equally busy to do some training.

Then I take Eddy for a little wander, but he doesn't really need another walk at that time so it's just so he gets a bit of variety and does his business.

Then Eddy goes out at about 9ish for a wee and I take Takara for a road walk just after.

Then bed around 9.30/10pm.

Sorted. lol

If we're doing a dark walk, we take our own light ;)

Brude has been through an assortment of mini torches, and currently wears his hi-vis jacket and flashing collar :) I carry a small torch to highlight his jacket if there is no other light about

are you going to arrange us a Endcliffe Dark walk (with a pint to finish :D)

See, I have no trouble seeing the dogs, it's me I fear for lol I'm a wuss. My problem is I can't see other people or other dogs and it puts me on edge, making the walk unpleasant for us all. So I tend to stay out of parks etc. when it's dark

Head torches are great :D

they dazzle anybody trying to see you, leaving you in the shadows behind, and they point in the direction you're looking in far quicker than a torch tangled in your lead :hihi:

We walk on the same local field that we do day walks in but we take a torch. At the moment Lilly is still on the lead until she's had some obedience training so we don't particularly have to worry about hi vis collars etc for her. Bloke wears a high vis jacket though for when walking on the road, and we use the torch to see dog poo that we might step in :gag: and for seeing to pick Lady Mucks poo up! Can't wait for the lighter nights though so I can take her on my own!

I'm looking forward to lighter nights too, although that also means more footballs to chase and pop in the park :help:

As a potential new dog owner :D :D where is it safe (ok, potentially nowhere is safe) for me as a single female to walk at night?

I'm in Hillsborough and drive.

Are there any spots people know to avoid?
Are there 'safe' places where it is busy with dog walkers at night?

ta  xx

If it's excitement your after, get yourself up and around Heeley farm, with a bit of luck you could come across the bloke who's dogs are 100 yards or more in front of him.
You can't mistake him he sometimes carries a tin of Stella in his hand,
one dog is a Rottweiler the other a Piebald Great Dane.
I often come across him late at night, or should i say his dogs Very Exiting i must say.
No disrespect to you KATIEB_23, i had to say this.

I walk our three during the day, to a field nearby,
oh takes them to the same field at night,
Timba (gsd) has got a flashing collar, cos he likes to go for a run,
and hes not that good at remembering to come back,
so the collar is brilliant, but the little two (cavaliers) stay on the lead,.

Must admit I'd be scared to walk the field at night, but as oh says nobody else would be daft enough to be on the field in the dark in all weathers only him.

Hillsborough Park? Saying that I don't know what it is like after dark and perhaps you know better than me whether this is a good place or not.

Max has an unfortunate tendency to go off in the dark, find a comfortable spot, sit down and then refuse to budge. It's such fun trying to entice him back to me in a penetrating hiss trying not to make too much noise. As a result he knows after about 6 pm he's in for the night. I have sometimes taken him up by the Smithywood working mens club, I can stand on the road whilest he roots around on the field behind the club.

Tilly isn't interested in chasing toys, but Meg & Rosie were obsessed, so every night we would take them to Concord Park when the floodlights were on in the outside football pitches. It threw enough light for them to play frisbee.

I have a big rechargeable light with a shoulder strap that I keep in the car in case I have to walk my temporary charge (I'm part time carer for a liddle dawg) in the dark, and then I just walk him wherever I would normally go- down Rivelin or wherever.

He's not big enough to put off anybody who may wish to smack me on the head with anything, but I'm plenty big enough to stop them myself!

We also have a thread about precautions to take in the dark - or at least visibility issues
