I went for a gift voucher last week on my way into Sheffield. It's the first time I've been in since 1999.

Everyday, only because we park the car there and get tram into city centre for work. Who said Meadowhall was a waste of space?! To me it's a glorified car park :D

I voted for once a year as it was nearest to my actual visits.

I go in the run up to Christmas and perhaps a couple of other times through the year but only if I have to.

The thought of going there weekly fills me with doom. After saying that the idea of shopping full stop fills me with dread.

i voted once a week but it varies, i can go up to once a day to once a month, normally round about payday i could probably be in there every other day thats if i've not spent all my money on Ebay that is!

I've been in Sheffield since 1997.....think I may have been about 7 times....most of those were straight into H&M to get cheap t-shirts for me hols

but there's one opening in Sheffield city centre soon, so doubt I'll go again.

I voted once a year though its slighty more than that. I am not keen on Meadowhell and only go if it's a must. It's usually the run up to Christmas that I end up there but never stay long as the heat and awfull lighting gives me awfull migraines. I can get everything I want elsewhere but the kids love to see the decorations so we end up going.

I go sometimes twice a week, but I tend to avoid Town or Meadowhall at Christmas unless I need to get a pressie that I can't get on the net.

I never go, I loathe the place. I've only ever been 3 or 4 times since it was opened and that was more enough :gag:

Me too. And why is it always so damn humid in there? Doesn't the air conditioning ever work?

Horrible place, very oppressive, an example of how NOT to build a shopping centre. Its badly ventilated and wide open to terrorist attacks.......security is almost non existent there.

I go about once a month when the mrs drags me there, I hate it too and nearly always get a headache within about 2 minutes of entering the place. Your right about the air con never working its like a sauna in there.

I go to "Mad-As-Hell" as little as possible, and even then it's under duress....

I avoid the place like the plague. I destest it!!

I go when I am absolutely forced to go. which is maybe once a year.

If I go, it's usually because I have to get something from there that I cannot obtain elsewhere.

That is the reason why I went last time, and the time before that.

the last time I went there was to get some clothes from a branch of a chain store which were not available at the city centre branch, and, as the items of clothing were for an interview, I could not hang around, for them to be ordered in to pick up from the branch in the city centre.

there are benefits to meadowhall I have been told.

-the fact that there are so many stores under one roof; it's all undercover; free parking; frequent tram, train and bus links...

but it is large, crowded, noisy and disorienting IMO. the wayfinding is dreadful.. you can so easily get lost there. there are no landmarks, to speak of to help guide the visitor. and did i mention the leaky glass rooves? pah!

meadowhall? naah, you can shove it, as far as I am concerned...

When in Sheffield I am occasionally dragged there. I find the experience rather unpleasant; there is hardly any fresh air, and the design of the place is vulgar and charmless. People dash about from garish shop to shop with horribly excited faces. It is almost as bad as the Trafford Centre, but at least with Meadowhall, one rarely encounters people from Wigan. The last time I went to Meadowhall, I came home with a migraine due to the humidity, bedlam noise and Hamburger gases that pervade the place. I have heard of people taking "shopping holidays" at the Trafford Centre, where they book into a nearby hotel, and spend the week wandering around the ghastly, sterile, plastic place. I wonder if any slack-jawed cretins do this at Meadowhall?

Funny that.. Meadowhell ALWAYS gives me a headache and a shocking backache to for some reason. Hate the place. I go in only when I know exactly what I want and where from.. in and out like Flynn me LOL

Im a once in two months kinda person. The roof doesn't leak tho, it's the 'sooper dooper sensitive design' roof they installed which senses rain etc and opens when required to suit circumstances, It never closes fast enough for rain so everyone gets wet! There's comedy value there if nothing else.
What I hate most is the floor, my feet are always killing me when I get back, town is much better for the feet for some bizarre reason.

It was featured on "The Flying Gardener" on Sunday morning. They were criticising the design and said it could easily have a turfed roof????

Visit about once a month.

In terms of parking and being functional and having the shops I need I would give it 9 out of ten

with respect to shopping enjoyment 4 out of 10 usually cant wait to get out of the place!

I worked in Dixons when meadowhall first opened, infact I was working in meadowhall before it was open to the public getting the store ready.

I have to say that in my experience working in meadowhall can be very challenging and most of the staff I meet do a superb job working very difficult hours.

Pop in usually 2 or 3 times per week. I live in Tinsley which is just 5 minutes walk away and normally go to Sainsbury's on my way home from work to get the food shopping. I go to the cinema there once a fortnight and just browse the shops when I've got a bit of spare time.
Since we are coming up to the silly season again I wont be going as often. Cycling around there is no fun unless you like terrifying the pedestrians on the footpaths.

I honestly can't understand this aversion some people have to Meadowhall.

Free parking, undercover (therefore warm and dry), plenty of cafes, huge choice of shops..............etc etc

If you don't like it, then don't go there but stop whinging about it. It brings a huge amount of business to the city (OK, I know - not the city centre) and also provides jobs for local people, albeit a lot of them are part time, but at least they are jobs!

When i worked at BK and had to wander in for 7am i found the place strangly warm and the air was perfectly breathable and i suffered no problems, leaving work however or just shopping there in general my eyes always stung terribly and my throat dryed up. My prognosis, that 'freakin' air conditioning and possibly chavs bad aftershave.

Can't say i miss the place though but don't even get me started on the trafford centre, 2 gadget shops next to each other, why???
WHY???????

I go quite often, only because there are no good menswear/trainer shops in town, if there were I wouldn't bother as I get too wound-up by the crowds.

I avoid meadowhell like the plague... the only time's i go there is if i'm being dragged by a member of the female species... and even then I will constantly moan until we leave! lol... on the odd EXTREME cercumstance when there is no other option, i will go there to get something... but thats VARY rare... like 3 or 4 times since it opened? lol

I have the internet for shopping, the town center and crystal peaks/drakehouse retail park... I don't need meadowhell!

I've put once a year. I guess I go once or twice for christmas shopping and maybe once during the year if parents come to stay.

Meadowhell has it all wrong, the design in not practical you walk down one bit, then back to the middle, then down the next bit etc. I've been to Bluwater in Kent a few times (near relatives) and it's far superior to Meadowhell. It is triangular in shape so wherever you start you walk round and end up where you started. Much better. Whoever designed Meadowhell should be shot!!!
Bluwater, also has outside bits, with lakes and picnic areas, swans, boats etc.
Meadowhell could be so much better than it is. Hate the place.

You wouldn't want to sit outside at Meadowhall on a hot sunny day with the wind blowing in the wrong direction though - Euuugghh !

thats SO very true... blackburn sewerage plant stinks to hell... I have relatives in Kimberworth and you can smell it the far side of kimberworth when its really hot... and thats a good 2 mile away!

also theres the fact the air round there CAN'T be good for you with all the fumes from the motorway and tinsley via-duct... and all the other traffic!

Oddly enough, i've never encountered any of these problems - except the occasional headache from the crowds around november - and i'm in there around 40 hours a week...
