Sounds like an act of desperation to me; the supposed "stay away fans" do not exist.
Just because the stadium holds 25,000 doesn't mean that 25,000 people should turn up for every game.
Wigan simply don't have 25,000 fans.
People talk about how the Premiership is the best league in the world, but is there really that much interest in games like Wigan v Reading or Charlton v Watford?

At least prices like that will attract neutrals, most of whom will ineviably cheer on Wigan. They will also buy pies, programmes, lucky draw tickets and so on.
Empty seats don't bring in any revenue. Seems a sensible and commendable policy to me.
The Premiership definitely isn't the best league in the world. Only the tabloids really believe that.
Grandad.Malky 05-01-2007, 10:46 I was at Wigan a few weeks ago and it’s a shame to see a recently promoted side with an excellent stadium half empty.
Its been said before, perhaps they should stick to rugby.

but it works!! when SUFC are playing a minor team, they decrease the ticket price and this does attract around anohter 5,000 supporters..
the biggest home attendance watford have had this year is against chelsea 22,077.. Watford 120,960 population compared to our against chelsea which was 32,000+

If you think Wigan's stadium looks bad half empty, have a trip to Darlington! Their ex-chairman built them a 30,000 capacity stadium and made wild promises about the Premiership in 10 years. They're still in league two and have average crowds of round 3,000....

Watford - with a population a quarter the size of Sheffield - draw nigh on a capacity crowd for Chelsea (Vicarage Road can hold 22,200) - what point are you trying to make??
they managed a pitiful 15,000 at home against the blades, which was a big match given the history between the two clubs.

Similar gates against Charlton & Watford - so much for the Blunts massive away following.

Were we given the tickets it would help .......

I went there in Division 4, all the way from London to watch us win 1-0 in front of some 7/8000.
6000 at least were Blades. Wigan are, to me, like MK Franchise. Should they drop, watch the demise.
Incidentally, there were over 20000 for the return match at the Lane. In Division 4.

Can't afford to buy them I take it...................

Only because it was Easter and it was a promotion game. Somebody has claimed Blunts nearly averaged 30,000 that season - top gate was less than 25,000.
I've seen 15,000 plus gates at Donny Rovers in the old Div 4 when they had a good season.

They (Wigan) were going well, but I think they brought a skateboard full. I think our average would have been about 13/14000.

Ha cheeeeeeeeky, who do you support? Its because they are doing rubbish now so all the glory hunters are staying at home. Same thing will happen next season, for them, us and Sheffield United.
Or just because they can't afford nearly £40 a ticket as they have lives!
