A new recording of the HH2TG starts again tonight on Radio 4 @ 6.30.
They seem to have got some of the original cast from the first recording, but they have done all of the 5 books from the trilogy ;)

You can listen to R4 via the Internet, and catch up with the old episodes too.

thank you for the reminder Tony.
I am *really* looking forward to that!!!
I loved h2G2 back in the very early 1980's with Mark Wing-davey as Zaphod Beeblebrox..... and Sanda Dickenson as "Trillian"
(incidentally, did you know that he is the son of Anna Wing, who played Lou Beale, on Eastenders?)
must see tv! ;)
I cant decide whether my favourite character on h2g2 was Slarty Bartfast, or Marvin, the Paranoid Android.....
PT
HHGTTG provided quotes and cliches like the Pythons did for a previous generation.
For some reason, these are the less usual parts that always crease me up:
Where Arthur Dent comments that 'your robot hums like Pink Floyd', after which Marvin apologises and the Pink Floyd track that had been building in the background suddenly stops. (The opening of 'Wish You Were Here', btw - a great album but that's another story) Due to copyright issues, it doesn't get broadcast anymore....
The cops who try and kill the heroes, whilst telling them that they really feel bad about what they're doing....
......'when men were real men, women were real women, and small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri were REAL small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri'
'What's so unpleasant about being drunk....you ask a glass of water.'
Oh blow it...there's just so much....I listened to it in my first year at Uni. My next door neighbour, Nick the Bassist, used to throw open house and the whole floor of our hall of residence would gather. Then 'The return of the sorcerer' would come out of the speakers of his not inconsiderable hi-fi and off we'd go.....
Douglas Adams....we salute you!
Joe :)

Oh, you gotta love Marvin the Paranoid Android - he's one of my very favourite fictional characters!
"Life! Don't talk to me about Life - loathe it or ignore it, there's no way you can like it"
and
"It gives me a headache just trying to think down to your level"
I always found him so endearing!

AND......
The line from the psychologist, Gag Halfrunt, when asked why he didn't have many friends....
'Professional detachment?'
'No, just don't have the knack....'
Ahhh.....going to have to dust off my tapes and listen on the Internet now!

"Brain the size of a planet, and what do they ask me to do...?"
(Marvin)
And yeah, that one from JoeP *has* to be a classic;
".... and small, furry creatures, from Alpha Centauri were small, furry creatures from Alpha Centauri!"
(me and my ex husband used to throw that one back and forth at each other all the time! chortle)
