Hello peeps,

Well I just wanted some opinions on the following restaurants as my bloke's b'day is mid Jan and we are looking to go on a nice meal with another couple after bowling at Hollywood Bowl.... I have experiences of some but maybe they were one-offs etc?

Chiquitos- Been a few times, loved it. Was thinking due to laction prob go here but also keen to try new places.

Boardwalk- Once went Nov 05, was LOVELY! Boyf had a steak and loved it...went again a few weeks ago and it wasn't anywhere near as nice.

Bits N Pizza- Never been

Old Orleans- Been once, can't really remember, must have been ok- a couple we know went for something to eat, we were there but did not eat... food ok but waiter rude as overheard something a mate said to my boyf and assumed it was directed at him and got mardy about it. Bit off putting.

Frankie n Bennys- Went once aaages ago, can't remember how it was, looks ok, menu looks decent.

TGI's- Used to like it, haven't been for ages. Used to go on Valentines day etc and was nicely decorated and the staff make me laigh with those uniforms lol.

Anywhere on West St??

Anywhere else??

Thanks :)

No bar and no smoking either! - price is £8.95 each with under 12's a little cheaper

Despite trying to cram too many people in a room the size of a terrace house sitting room.

Dam House in Crookes Valley Park is by far and away the best restraunt in Sheffield, lovely views and great food. Failing that Le Bistro in Wentworth is also very nice.

There's a nice Chinese right at the top of West St which I've been to a few times with my sister - not the big buffet thing by Tesco, but further up beyond the Wetherspoon pub...

Thats Hui Wei and it is a lovely lovely restaurant - one of my faves. Interesting chinese food, fabulous decor, great service and wonderful ice cream for dessert! Not terribly expensive either - 4 courses with drinks usually £60 ish for 2.

Flying Pizza (Volante) on West Street? Amazing food, good service, good wine at a reasonable price too. 2 starters, 2 mains, bottles of wine is around £50 I think (struggling to remember).

I don't like any of those "restaurants" at Centertainment, they are a bit too boil-in-the-bag for my liking. I'd go to London Road there is every type of restaurant you can think of, and some you can't, the prices are much cheaper than the town centre, Centertainment or Ecklesall Road too.

Damon's ! :D (Awaits for bashing from the anti-Damons crowd. lol.)

Well, I normally don't recommend chains, apart from Pizza Express, Cafe Rouge, Cafe Uno or Damons. I know the ones in Centertainment all serve the kind of samey stuff. I've been to all of them, and don't like to go there any more, if I can help it.

If it's the actual day of your bf's birthday, then you get a discount in Damons. Steaks are definitely not bad there.

They have a very good head chef at Dam House who's worked in a 3 Michelin Star restaurant in France. Think he may have earned one for a restaurant over here as well but not sure. Either way it's very tasty food, the steak is immense.

Much better than one of the American diner places on the Centretainment - not slagging 'em off as I go to them every so often for a decent bit of food but if it's a birthday it's worth pushing the boat out a bit :)

I went to Las Iguanas iN west One before Christmas with my Mum, and I thought it was great.Wee all had a good time, they did really good cocktails, the food was spot on and there was quite a good party atmosphere without being too much.

Someone's already mentioned Chez Lahlou, Commonside, Walkey - they're right - great portions and an expansive menu. The best Italian is probably Casanova at Crookes, and next door to them is a very lively and fun Tapas bar.
