Try the Dog and Partridge on Trippet Lane. It's a proper Irish pub.

It all depends on what you want from a pub / bar - I would agree that the D&P is a proper good boozer, although if you are after glamour and dancing girls then don't bother, as you are only likely to find fiddles and scotch eggs. :)

Do you want a 'proper' pub with real ales? Do you want a modern bar with cocktails, Stella and dancing..?

If you like some decent ale then the 'valley of beer' is a good afternoon, or a good day staggering around Crookes & Walkey.

Hey Pat, if you're a chef (and I'm one too) come and have a beer and a meal at Seasons! ;) We like to think it's the sort of place that will really appeal to chefs (especially classically trained ones) because there's hardly anywhere in Sheffield doing what we do; we do things properly and in my humble opinion, it shows! hehe

You clearly don't get in much on a Tuesday, Friday or Saturday then. Never a scotch egg and rarely ever a fiddle in sight, but still one of the best pubs in town by a long way...

The Kelham Tavern without a doubt ... friendly, safe and real ale at a reasonable price. Food available most days!

the red lion on charles street, home cooked lunches, no smoking area at lunch time, pool table and 5 hand pull beers, friendly atmosphere and good beer.

and then if you fancy the dancing girls afterwards, spearmint rhino is a short roll down the hill! ;)

I second that - lovely traditional pub with nice new non smoking section overlooking the beer garden.

always serves great real ales alaongside other mainstream beers.

Sarni's at the bar if you're peckish, but they also serve pub lunches.

its won city pub of the year for 2006!

I like the Devvy Cat personally, but it tends to be a little pricey.

Bath Hotel and Red Deer, drop down to the Dog and Partridge, then Fagans, down to the Three Tuns, cross the main road to the Kelham Island Tavern, on to the Fat Cat, and finally the Cask and Cutler.

Tram or taxi, then satisfied kip.

I'll dig you a map up. All traditional pubs with traditional beer.

An excellent route!
Personally I'd finish at the Kelham since they are licensed late these days.

The Gardener's Rest (which you'll find at 105 Neepsend lane) is very good and inexpensive. Don't let the surrounding industrial area put you off.

Sheaf View. Tip top beers. I once had to wait for a new barrel to come on and the barman must have tipped 6 pints away until the beer was right. He said that it should not be cloudy at all, 5 of the 6 pints I would have taken without any complaint. Great prices as well.

I can recommend the Red Lion on Charles Street, The Red Deer or The Bath Hotel just off West Street and The Sanctuary near the Cathedral.

The Sheaf View has some decent beers but some of the bar staff are a bit cocky and irritating.

I'll second or third recommendations for Kelham Island Tavern and The Flat Cap. Been to both many times with visitors to the city; never been let down by the variety and quality of ales available, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and repeat visits are always requested. They're both pretty central and located within a couple of minutes' staggering walking distance of each other.

Prohibition, The Living Room, Browns, Slug and Lettuce, Firefly, Tiger Tiger.

Pity you have to travel 35 or so miles to get to them.

I'm glad they are 35 miles away.

Pretentious, over-priced tat.

Give me a decent Sheffield boozer any day.

:
Sorry but the only one of those that is any good is Prohibition, the others are just poor. I agree that good bars in Sheffield are few and far between but I would say bars like 23, The Harley, and Lounge at least have a little more to them

Hi Gularscute - I've always got on really well with the staff at the sheaf, never found them cocky or irritating myself. Specific incident or general feeling?
