View Full Version : Could you help me with poorly puppy
Birth-Peace 03-01-2007, 19:15 My beautiful Bailey is abit under the weather. Last night he was not himself at all and his nose was dry and hot. When I came home today he seemed absolutely as right as rain again so I cancelled his vets appointment but now he has gone all floppy again.
What is the matter with him?
Get him back in to the vets, Olliekitten.
I'm sure he'll be fine - my moggies have a habit of doing this - acting well before a trip to the vet!
Are there any other symptoms olliekitten? Although often a dry nose - particularly if it's usually wet - can be a sign of illness, it's not always and dogs do have off days just like us so I can understand you not being sure about taking him to the vet... it's a shame the prices are so ridiculous otherwise we wouldn't worry about taking them to the vets if they seemed unwell.
Anyhow - is he off his food? Drinking more or less than usual? When you say floppy - do you mean he is sleeping a lot, or when you pick him up is he all floppy?
If he seems incredibly weak I'd be inclined to get him straight to the vet - if he's just being antisocial and quiet, I'd be tempted to wait and see if I could spot any other symptoms - both of mine often go quiet and have their offdays - one just refuses to eat for a day or two aswell but they're both fine.
How old is he now OK?
I'm more inclined to go dashing off to the vets with a pup than with an adult dog - as they're less able to 'ride' an illness
Dogs can have off colour days. Have a search for the thread I started on feeding a sick dog and watch him carefully for the next couple of days. Check his poo isn't unusual, and watch he isn't sick (and they do have a nasty habit of eating it if they are, so keep a careful eye out)
If it's a tummy upset, try a bit of pro-biotic yoghurt drink ;)

Urgh Eddy eats his sick, and Takara's. Takara doesn't - she's far too upper class for that
Olliekitten make sure that he is drinking plenty if he is weak but also watch out for if he's drinking much larger amounts than normal - this can indicate kidney problems I believe...
How is Bailey this evening.
If his temp is still up the vets is the best option. Puppys like kids get ill quickly but on the plus side they tend to recover as quick.
Most important thing is too keep him drinking an well hydrated.
shihtzumad 05-01-2007, 22:53 how is Bailey, i really hope is is Ok, let us no please
I'm Bailey's companion while Olliekitten's out at work, and I can tell you that he's done the usual puppy trick of being off colour just long enough to worry everyone, then been annoyingly perky and sweet all day.
I think he had a bit of an upset stomach- he was a bit hot, and his tummy was sore, but you'd never have believed it, if you'd have seen him up to his armpits in mud earlier on this afternoon.

He is the only 'posh puppy' I have ever seen that uses his face to dig holes, and in other people gardens too:o
Hope you are ok Bailey:)
Birth-Peace 06-01-2007, 01:40 Bailey is doing great. Thank you for your concern everyone
Gah! Pups! Sounds like a bug and a bit of dehydration, but aren't they annoying when they go all daft on you like that?
Glad he's back to doing the less annoying pup things again :D
shihtzumad 06-01-2007, 11:02 bless ikkle man aww, glad he his full of his old tricks again...........
