View Full Version : Cheap skiing holidays samjcrookes 03-01-2007, 13:00 hi, im looking for recomended ski resorts in europe. i have two lads in their late teens that are interested in the idea but what somewhere popular and livly as well. thanks lizzmobile 03-01-2007, 13:29 Andorra is a great place to start and the night life is fabulous. Cheap too, and as a tax haven, you can buy all sorts of v cheap priced desireable goods. Soldeu/El Tarter/Encamp are all very good and close together and the scenery is lovely. Pas da la Casa is a bit mad, and has good restaurants but the lack of vegetation makes it like skiing a motorway. Arinsal is supposed to be v good too, but entails a very long transfer via a very long and snakey road from the airport (Toulouse). The ski instrictors at the ski school there are world class so you can't go wrong and if they go mid-late season, there will still be good snow and great weather. I highly recommend First Choice as a tour operator and get a last minute deal via teletext, there's always something available leaving in a couple of days' time. DeanoGV 04-01-2007, 00:32 hi, im looking for recomended ski resorts in europe. i have two lads in their late teens that are interested in the idea but what somewhere popular and livly as well. thanks You can try the Tatra mountains in Poland Flights into Krakow on easyjet or Wizz thae flights are very cheap. You take a train to Zakopane. Contact the tourist office in Zakopane and inform them of your needs They all speak english. to give you an indication if you stay in a traditional accomodation you will be supplied with three meals a day and it will make a great holiday. They will also arrange a driver to take you to the ski lifts. The nightlife and bar life is great!!!!! Cheap beer and Vodka The local people of the Tatras are great people they will provide you with an unforgettable holiday so you reccomend all of your friends. If you have time make sure you stay at least one whole day in Krakow it is a fantastic city with amazing architecture and sights like the salt mines which are a must. I have been ski-ing in France, Switzerland, Austria,Italy and Andorra. The runs in the Tatra's are not as good at the three valley's but from your post I think you are all relative beginners so the Tatra's would combine all aspects. Good Luck samjcrookes 04-01-2007, 09:33 Thanks for the reccomedations, i shall now be checking the internet for good deals. :D thanks again D2J 04-01-2007, 09:36 I'd love to learn how to Snowboard.. D2J 04-01-2007, 10:07 D2J im going on a days course at Escape in Castleford in a few weeks, its £150 for 8 hours snowboard lesson. Going to Canada in March so thought would rather learn here so that i can make the most of it when im in Canada. Get it booked! I'm off to Canada in March too :o It's just somet I've always fancied having a go at :D Scott78 04-01-2007, 11:05 hello, a mate of mine has an apartment in france which he rents out, supposed to be really good value. have a look on his website. if you get in touch tell him scott pointed you in his direction!! www.freshlines.co.uk gravity-slave 04-01-2007, 11:47 Eastern Europe has great prices, limited ski-ing but great for starting out France is often purpose built, awesome ski-ing, expensive resorts Austria for tree ski-ing, lots of Apres-ski and pretty villages Canada for excellent customer service and huge powder days - not cheap! Good luck hunting for deals - but also bear in mind the additional costs that can bite you (very hard) in the bum if not prepared: Lift pass - can be around £180 for a week for a full area pass!! Ski/Boot hire - I'm guessing at about £80 for a week Lessons in resort - also costly! Just check it all out before you sign up to the cheap brochure price! Also consider a few hours at a slope in the UK first so you don't blow a grand on a holiday to do a sport that isn't really the one (unlikely though, everyone I know who tries it gets the bug). Ski-ing is awesome, I'd far rather do this than a summer holiday. Getting excited already! And you are never too old to learn - I used to work at the Ski Village and taught a 70 year old once, who was off on his first trip abroad. He loved it! DaveD 04-01-2007, 12:07 Bulgaria ...cheap prices and reasonable skiing but the kids love the night life as the beer is cheap...lots of English people and there are lots of offers..try Borrovets... Happy_camper 04-01-2007, 12:33 Lift pass - can be around £180 for a week for a full area pass!! Ski/Boot hire - I'm guessing at about £80 for a week Lessons in resort - also costly! In my experience getting a ski package from your tour operator is best value. Last year with Neilsen we paid £200 for a lift pass, ski and boot hire and 6 days of lessons (3hrs per day). Definately helps you get the most from your holiday. GabbleRatcht 04-01-2007, 12:49 I leant to ski in a place called Aprica in Italy. Got a late deal from Teletext on a Thompsons package. Think it was around £300. It was flights, hotel, half board and transfers. Or so we thought. It also included gear hire, lift pass and five days of lessons! We couldn't believe it when we were told by the rep. Good place for beginners, but as for the night life, that consists of watching the tumbleweed blow down the street. lizzmobile 04-01-2007, 13:19 I'd love to learn how to Snowboard.. Are you ever to old to learn :( As long as you are willing to learn, then you are young enough  DancingDave 04-01-2007, 13:43 WOW !! Just booked a week in Bulgaria,Borovets 1/2 Board, including flights from Doncaster, £ 180- each Even if it isn't fantastic, I paid over a grand last year to go to France, so I'll be able to go twice this year. Dave D have you been ? any recommendations or advice ? Can't wait, its a fantastic holiday Skiing. kieran 04-01-2007, 15:23 it's always cheap if you hunt around and are flexible. the major european resorts are good if you want lessons out there as france, italy and austria have very strick guitelines on who can teach and how much experience they must have. andora/ pyranes can be good but you have to watch the snow carefully before booking otherwise you end up dirt skiing, mind you it's always worth checking the snowconditions before booking. one of the problems you'll find with european resorts is that the nightlife can be very expensive (although great fun). have yet to try bulgaria/poland areas but are on the list. Canada is great becuase of the garantied snow but you tend to spend more on accomodation there and the night life can be quite tame. Hope that helps. I know a lot of people who run holiday compaines in the alps who i can put you in contact with. Kieran DaveD 04-01-2007, 16:21 sorry cannot reply to pms yet it wont let me! when are you going to Bulgaria as i am off on the 20th I also got a cheap deal from thompsons....only got back from austria 10 days ago...the only advice i have about borrovets (where i have been) is that don't expect too much ..it is busy and the food in the hotels is not up to much ..at least the cafe's are good value and the drink is cheap...The pistes are a bit limited if you are a really good skier and it is not as proffesional as France or Austria. The tuition is a bit hit and miss also. DancingDave 04-01-2007, 16:37 Oh No Dave D, I'll be going on February 3rd. I'm not a fantastic skier that wants to jump off cliffs etc, so I'm sure it will be ok, I'll probably go again in March somewhere a bit more challenging, if I haven't broken anything. if you look at this website - j2ski.com it has snow reports and some useful info. I'll wait to hear how you got on . . . Hope its good ! Eclaire 04-01-2007, 16:41 I'd love to learn how to Snowboard.. Are you ever to old to learn :( Im currently in Mont Tremblant which is a snow resort near to Montreal and im learning how to snowboard. Im 35.
