Hi

There's an aqua-natal class on at Hillsborough on a Thursday evening. i'm not sure of the times but if you phone the antenatal clinic at Jessops they'll let you know. I don't think they let you go until 18 weeks though.

Aquanatal classes are really intended for during the later stages of pregnancy, but standard aquarobics classes are ideal for during the earlier stages, provided your instructor knows that you're pregnant so they can advise you of what stretches and twists aren't suitable for you. One of my friends attended standard classes right up to her 34th week.

Tuesday and Wednesday nights standard aquarobics classes are led by Chris Young, who is very competent and is also qualified in first aid just in case things go wrong. She also does Monday nights at Ponds Forge (and no- I'm not on commission. I just went to her classes for a number of years through ill health and found her really helpful).

The aqua natal class at Hillsborough Leisure centre is Thursday night 7-8pm then afterwards you get a chance to chat with everyone in the creche. It's an opportunity to meet other mums to be. I was told I had to be 16 weeks pregnant.

Hi,
I run fitness classes for Mums-to-be & New Mums in Sheffield S17, 2 nights a week. Each class runs for an hour and can only take 10 people per class. I am fully insured and hold the Central YMCA qualification level 3 in Instructing Physical Activity for Ante & Post Natal exercise. It's a great opportunity to meet others sharing the same experience. Classes are booked in advance and all women are pre screened before engaging in exercise.

There are so many benefits to exercising during pregnancy including helping in controlling excessive weight gain, improved sleep, faster post natal recovery and easing labour & delivery. After the birth of your child, you can work on regaining your pre pregnancy weight/figure.

You can expect to follow a simple, gentle, low impact aerobic routine for 30 mins, followed by 10 minutes toning, 10 minutes pelvic floor exercises and 10 minutes stretch and relaxation.

My classes are suitable for beginners to exercise as well as those having exercised before the pregnancy. All equipment including mats and weights are provided and I use a radio microphone similar to those in Health Clubs. I regularly teach for Fitness First, Esporta and Virgin Active.
