You could do a lot worse than him. Sl3n3y 20-09-2004, 10:41 Having a good team coach isn't all that needs changing. the club needs to formulate a long-termplan to ensure the clubs future - instead of trying for quick success on the pitch by payin extortianate wages to third rate players. The club is in a mess and will be for the foreseeable future if the people in charge don't sacrifice the need for instant success for the long term stability of the club - selling the training ground that doesn't even belong to them isn't the answer! Paul Sturrock did a good job at plymouth and got them playin good football last season but plymouth are still doing exceptionally well this season in a higher division! boyface 20-09-2004, 12:31 Well, I'm not a Wednesday fan, but even if I was, the suggestion of Paul Sturrock would make me think "WHY THE HELL WOULD HE?" A.B.Yaffle 20-09-2004, 12:41 I reckon Megson would be the best option if he was willing to step down a couple of divisions. Would make interesting derby matches next season if they get promoted and us Blades don't... considering how Megson and Warnock are such close friends! tosh13 20-09-2004, 13:07 I read the Daily Mirror this morning & they say Mark Wright could be a possibility, what he did at Chester was amazing with the resources he had & I think he could be one of the most outstanding new young managers for years.Good Luck to the Owls .UP THE BLADES A.B.Yaffle 20-09-2004, 13:08 The Star claims that is has heard that Allen's number one target is Sturrock. Dunno how reliable it is, or whether Sturrock would want the job. My guess is that he would. bellis 21-09-2004, 05:57 i think it will probly be sturrock who takes over the owls    Tony 21-09-2004, 06:21 Well a mate of mines brother saw a new car in Monty's with Howard Wilkinsons name on the side. Robbie Loving 21-09-2004, 07:08 well if chelsea keep drawing i hear mourinho is intrested LOL Dick_Turpin 21-09-2004, 07:37 I'd like to see Sturrock. The football that his Plymouth side were playing last year in what effectivly is divison 3 was outstanding. As for Howard. I dont really think I'd want him back as gaffer but his work in re structuring coaching within the FA has been a great acheivment and I think it might be a good idea to have somebody like that , football knowledable on the board to sort out other aspects of the job and let the manager get on with his. Coaching and managing Sheffield Wednesday back to where they should be. Robbie Loving 21-09-2004, 18:28 Sheffield Wednesday look set to name their managerial replacement for Chris Turner, with former Southampton boss Paul Sturrock in line to take the Hillsborough post. The Owls have been searching for a new manager after sacking Turner on Saturday following a disappointing start to their League One campaign. A number of names have been linked with the Wednesday job, with the likes of Stan Ternent, Ronnie Moore, Steve McMahon, Chris Waddle and Roy McFarland all being mentioned in connection with the managerial vacancy. Reports, however, are suggesting that Owls chairman Dave Allen wants the former St Johnstone, Dundee United and Plymouth Argyle chief to take control of the cash-strapped South Yorkshire outfit. Sturrock's agent refused to comment on the matter with skysports.com, but indications are pointing to the Scot becoming the next Owls manager in the near future. The former Dundee United and Scotland striker has experience of League One football, having placed Plymouth in a position to win the old Division Two championship last term before taking the Southampton job towards the end of last season. Wednesday, meanwhile, have revealed their swiftness in finding a new manager by saying their search began on Sunday. "The search started on Sunday and will continue over the next 48 hours," Owls football secretary Kaven Walker told the club's official website. "There are several potential candidates, but we hope to make an appointment as quickly as possible." Wednesday's youth academy coach Mark Smith will be in charge of the side for their Carling Cup second round trip to Coventry City on Wednesday. bellis 22-09-2004, 04:32 it certainly looks like it will be paul sturrock but with last nights shock cup exit of wba could gary megson be in the running for the owls job:clap:        kirky 22-09-2004, 05:07 micky mouse:hihi: :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: tosh13 23-09-2004, 13:32 Sturrock has been confirmed as the new Owls manager. His priority is promotion, well good luck to him. With that team he's gonna need it. A.B.Yaffle 23-09-2004, 14:15 Sturrock's record seems a bit similar to Turner's. Both of them were very successful at getting promotion for teams in lower divisions... I wonder if the similarity will continue. Would it be a bit premature to start a new "Who will be Owls next manager?" thread? :D |
