Any advice on upper ear piercing? any stories (good and bad) How much does it really hurt / healing time / best place to have it done? Also what are the chances of anything really bad happening. I've seen a few articles etc about ppl who've had it done and that horrible thing where it grows into like a huge tumour type thing off the side of your ear and it has to be cut off etc! thanks, Emma

Dont go to Claires. or a hairdressers that will do it with a piercing gun. The gun isnt suitable for anything other than earlobes (and even thats questionable).

Go to a proper, reputable piercer (search the forum for "piercing" to find other threads about this).

Id reccomend Jayne at Feline Tattoo on Hickmott Road, just off Ecclesall Road.
If its pierced properly with a needle rather than a gun, and the correct jewellrys used (316L Stainless Steell or Titanium, pref rings rather than studs), and you look after it properly (saline soaks twice a day, dont touch it with dirty fingers, dont pick it, dont rotate the ring through the piercing) it should be pretty much healed inside of a couple of months.

absolutely, don't have it done with a gun. Needle, and Feline is recommended.

Good Luck :)

've had my belly button done @ feline and she was really good. It's quite expensive but well worth the money :)

I would recomend Feline too, for piercing and tattooing.
The staff are realy friendly and the shop is clean and welcoming (apart from the coffin).
The prices are a little higher than other places in Sheffield, but they do a good job.

there is a piercing and tattoo place at the end of that alley in town, i cant remember the name of it for the life of me- its the one next to USC. hang on....chapel walk?! yes i think thats the one....i got my belly done there. I'd say there pretty good. i was going to get my tongue done but they told me i had too much alcohol in my blood from night before (oops)- so i'd say they were pretty careful too! i never did get round to doing that...

I last got my ear pierced by my mate, she has to redo it this weekend though as i took it out for a few days and it healed over. she does all her own ones herself. mad bint.

i got mine done originally when i was 10 and it was crap, they did it lopsidedly and i had to let them heel and do it again the following year. i'd say just make sure the place is licensed and gives you adequate information about earcare. i think claire's are pretty good at this

I recommend Mr Personalities on woodseats. Ive had my belly bar put in there and most of my friends have had their ears stomach and other places done their without a problem

to be fair i had mine done 9 years ago and they pierced it with a gun and ive never had any problems with it. Unfortunetly the place i had it done was castle markets but the place has closed down and sinse become a book shop.

my best friend also had hers done years ago, again with a gun, and never had problems with it.

guess its just your ears

I had mine done with a gun and have had nothing but bother with them, if you want it doing then pay the money to be pierced properly.

It doesn't have to be done with a cannula. I use needle blades for most of my piercings.

What's the difference?

The needle tends to be the same gauge as the jewellery, so bleeding is reduced. There is no plastic sheathing to potentially 'catch' on the exit, there is less waste as you have no bulky plastic bits and they don't look as scary. The ones I use are 2" long.

I had mine done with a gun years ago and never had any problems, but had my tongue done at Feline and my hubby had a tatoo done there, and they are fantastic. I have heard people saying not to have it done with a gun, so id recommend going somewhere proper.

i had the top of my ear done with a gun, and thankfully have never had a problem with it, didnt even hurt afterwards, but i guess i was lucky. My friend got hers done at the same time as i did, also with a gun and hers is still sore, almost three years later!
